OMG Fix Android App ASAP

So far no issues in the last day running PMS 1.14 and Android 1.17

Changing the battery optimisation seems to work for me. No playback stopping yet, however sometimes long pauses between songs (3-5 seconds) where it probably is reconnecting to the server.

It was already turned off for my devices (3 different Android devices). Did not fix the problems on any of them.

Well testing Android app 1.17 and server 1.14 has presented its problems. Only on this version of the Android app the entire song will play, but many times will not play the next song.

Any time I have problems with Plex on Android I’ll fire up Spotify and it’ll start playing immediately and continue to play without issue.

So with Plex pushing Tidal integration, when are they going to spend some time on getting this Android app stable?

Same issue on my Android devices. Plex 7.22.1.12828. Can’t make it through an album before the music stops and the Plex app stops responding. Only when streaming music from the server. Downloaded music does not have the issue.

I’m thinking more information is needed from those posting about the problem.

Why? Because I can’t reproduce the issue. Pixel 3, Android 10, PMS 1.18.1.1973, Android app 7.23.0.13123. Sprint is the carrier, but I also stream over remote WiFi without issue.

7.23 seems to be current: Plex for Android

I’ve been able to reliably workaround the issue by killing the session whenever this happens. Plex maintains your session even when the app is closed/unused for long periods/etc and the issue, at least for me, seems related to the session being stale (which, IMO, is kind of unacceptable when in offline mode).

Anyway, try hitting the ā€˜x’ in the player (and not killing the application) if you experience freezes between tracks, tracks stuck looping, the track not matching what the player says it’s playing, etc.

Have there been any developments on this?
I feel like it’s happening to me more often on 7.23 than on 7.22.

Server Version#: 1.18.0.1944
Player Version#: 7.23.0.13123

It seems the problems have disappeared for me with the latest PMS and Android version:

Server: 1.18.1.2019
Android: 7.23.0.13123 (Android 9.0, Nokia 6.1 (2018))

I will stay on the public for now.

Not sure what’s going with Android. Had Plex for Android 7.24.0 installed (recent Play Store-suggested update) and found it was dreadful - lots of synced files broken or not syncing, no offline mode available, sync kept showing no files.

Uninstalled and reinstalled from Google Play Store, now seem to be back to 7.23 which at least seems usable but I’m having to re-sync everything again. Has 7.24 been pulled?

TBH I’m not sure why the interface keeps on getting changed about. It was functional in 7.23, I would have preferred development effort to have gone into fixing sync issues rather than further changing the UI.

There was a large backlash against the previous new UI last year of which I was a part of which finally just got replaced. I’m happy to finally have some of the old UI features back.

Granted, I do want the functional aspects of Plex working, but I feel like the first UI revamp that was widely hated was a waste of effort to begin with and doubly so since they had to replace it again.

I’m not against beneficial UI changes, but I really have to ask if Plex understood their core users at all with the previous change.

Yeah, I agree. For the rather short time I’ve been using Plex I feel like the current way of developing the platform is very flawed. There is very little insight into what Plex are doing. They are not really sharing much with their users until we suddenly have some big changes coming out of seemingly nowhere.

The current way of doing things seems to be to release something, get a lot of backlash because whatever change they made left out important features or doesn’t work properly, then iterate. I really do think the Plex developers would benefit from talking more openly about what they want to do with Plex with their users. They could for example create a forum or blog post talking about why they want to change whatever feature and what they want to do to get there, share some current drafts and get feedback based on that. I think that would make Plex better for everyone, with a lot less backlash.

Thread is almost 3 months old and still nothing from Plex that they resolved the issue. But I can get Tidal integration.

Running the latest Plex Server and Plex android app. Audio pauses for several seconds in the middle of songs sometimes (well after the whole song has loaded during direct play).

More frustrating though, is that play/pause and previous/next track commands from my bluetooth headphones don’t work at all (B&W PX headphones). Works with every other music app I’ve used, including two different Subsonic apps.

Edit: the bluetooth headphone issue seems to have been resolved with a phone reboot, but returned again, and then went away once another track started playing. Very weird.

Here we are 3-1/2 months after I reported this issue and it’s still not fixed.

I would say if you find an app/server combination that works don’t ever bother updating the software.

Welcome to the club, but hey… You get Tidal (which nearly nonone uses) as well as an assortment of B-level 80’s movies from Lionsgate, but you still can’t access your OWN media on the PERSONAL MEDIA server system we are paying for.

I also have an issue with playback of a synced shuffled playlist of music. 90% of the time, after 1-3 songs, playback stops. The UI does not update to reflect information (name/art/trackDuration) of the following song even though the following song sometimes begins playing. I have to manually force close the play instance and restart it to proceed.
Phone: Note 9 on Android Pie. (Non-battery-optimized app.)

Bump for the new year

Mine just started freezing in middle of songs and app becomes unresponsive…cleared cache and forced stop app still freezes again in middle of song

why has this not been fixed???
