That issue with cast is something we’re working to address with the new TV agent and new movie agent. So cast will then be shared across libraries
I have specifically stated that we’re working on changes to benefit both users with few libraries and many. I never stated that new features would only benefit users with few libraries
I’ve been reviewing the new TV agent with its pre beta builds and while yes the cast avatar is shared (thanks) I do not believe the cast is scoped in search between libraries. So if I select a cast member for a show it will also show which movies they are in.
I’ll double check the next time a new drop comes of the TV agent builds.
As I said, it’s something we’re working towards, but for an idea on what we’re heading towards for people, you can have a look at mediaverse.plex.tv
400 Bad Request
use https:// and it will work
facepalm Sorry I just used right click > go.
I don’t know about others but that doesn’t give me much hope for the future. Plex is about OUR media, a major reason I use Plex is to not waste limited internet bandwidth & data limits. I know I’m in the minority there, but the OUR Media is a sentiment often seen in these forums. Now if you had a way to link my Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Vudu, VRV, Funimation, etc accounts into Plex maybe we’d appreciate it more, but pushing movies to stream on the free streaming services doesn’t satisfy most people. Those things are free for a reason. Sure they’re getting better, but I don’t want a list of your recommendations when they are limited to bottom of the barrel movies you get in the $3 bin at Walmart. Sure, plenty of those are good movies, but we all know it’s just your way of having ads. Ads don’t improve the user experience, they are things we tolerate to keep costs down. I personally don’t mind the ads, but when the ads become 90% of the home screen you’ve just made the Home Screen a Junk Screen.
What part of that are we supposed to start falling in love with first?
I just want to make sure I don’t start doing it wrong.
Your most certainly NOT in the minority. I have and WILL NEVER use any of the online media sources plex supply. I know certain folks want that and that is fine but my server is my content, I setup it up, I curate it and I should be able to define how its shown to my users. This is why I purchased plex. If they change to something else then that is an issue for me.
I’d never seen mediaverse.plex.tv until now. I’d have concerns but will see what happens. As long as I can turn what I consider the online crap off then I’m good.
I do look forward to seeing the customisation stuff which Dave has mentioned. I just hope they give a good time for beta feedback before they push it on folks (like what they done with the movie agent and are doing with the new TV agent). But if they force this on us like they done with the roku client updates last year then the rage will continue …
lol. I meant in the minority being concerned with data limits & such. I know a lot of people aren’t concerned with that & a lot more use remote sharing. But it’s nice to hear that sentiment vocalized by another member of this minority group
The thing I was trying to highlight was the improved metadata for individuals, actors, directors, etc. Such as https://mediaverse.plex.tv/person/chris-evans, and the kind of metadata you can expect for your own local content.
As I mentioned, that was about highlighting metadata and links crossing different types of media when you look at an actor or director, and being able to link that way. You can expect the same kind of experience and metadata within your own collection when looking at an individual person
But you do realize that’s not the same thing right? I think most of us don’t want an online thing that links to his stuff, rather a listing of other items in OUR libraries that he’s also in. I mean sure, it’s nice having an IMDB profile essentially inside of Plex I guess, & it’s cool that there are links to the movies that can be streamed for free, but that’s, again, not the same thing as “Here are other titles in your library if you want to watch something else they’re in.” If anything the Mediaverse is more like another form of ads. “Hey look what else he’s in that you haven’t bought yet!” of course listing the newest 1st, which you are least likely to have, right after the “See him in these titles you can stream from our sponsors”
It’s a much different thing to say “what else do I have with him” & “what do I want to make you want to get” the 1st is convenience, the later is advertising
There is no evidence in front of us, either way.
What Dave linked to is not collected data, it’s just the template to show what types of data are collected.
The library info would get repeated for every library on a particular server.
-Library Type (movie, music, photo, show)
-Library Language
-Library Agent
-Library Scanner
-Total Number of Items in Library
I was referencing the anecdotal evidence I mentioned in my post, not the link he provided.
I clearly stated this was an example of the level of metadata you could expect for people in your own library, specifically for your content. Please stop taking things out of context, or ignoring parts of what I say.
I’d very much applaud better metadata, but unless it can work across library types (movies AND TV-series) it won’t really be much better than the current solution? Will it split up by type of credit as in today’s solution? Or is the idea to actually gather everything in one place? Will I see, on the same page, a given persons acting, directing and writing credits for example? The same person can have a lot of roles across a library.
EDIT: And how will it work if I use different scanners? I use HAMA for Anime for example, as I need the anidb logic. I don’t like how theTVDB does anime.
If you click through to the link I provided, it should answer those questions clearly enough. It does cross media types, both TV and movies, and list credits beyond just acting. https://mediaverse.plex.tv/person/taika-waititi is a good example of this
It seems decent. Will it work across library types as well? Also see my edit about different scanners.
