As mentioned, it will work across library and media types. This will be for all content using our new Movie and TV agents. The movie agent was released last year, and the new TV agent is currently in a forum preview.
Iâm using the link you provided. Unless Plex is changing itâs standards when things say On Plex that exclusively means the streaming components. Now there may be a spot, probably at the bottom, for Also in your library but from the information you provided it looks like that is at most an afterthought & certainly the focus of the Mediaverse is very evidently pushing the streaming providers
Then it clearly is an improvement.
I guess my anidb based metadata is a lost cause though.
As I previously mentioned, this was an example to show the level of detail you can expect to see within your own library content. Again, youâre picking and choosing parts of my comments, and this behaviour is heading into trolling territory, which goes against our forum guidelines.
Iâm really not. You said itâs âthe level of detail you can expect to see within your own library contentâ okay sure. That level of detail doesnât seem to include anything about other titles in your library. Iâm sure that will be included, but your examples give zero evidence or examples of that. What they do give examples of is where the focus is. What am I picking apart & ignoring? The only things Iâm ignoring are fluff statements like âallow more curation than has ever been possible beforeâ & âeverything I say is true & accurateâ which doesnât actually mean anything, itâs just fluff to make things sound better. But you actually keep mishearing things people say here
Nobody ever said you said they would only benefit those with few libraries, we said, in response to what you said, that it was focused on those with few.
I understand that Dave canât give more detailed info until Plex is ready to announce these new features.
It was a bit silly to release only enough changes to annoy people but maybe they had to for some reason.
I think a lot of the complaints go back to this sort of statement. Prioritizing how you want us to use Plex instead of implementing features based on how we do use Plex says you donât understand us or donât consider us as important as the casual user. The fact that multiple libraries will still work as an option doesnât take away from the implication that Plex is trying to move us in a different direction.
Introducing features that make these libraries more connected is always appreciated (like the actors crossing over), but focusing on functions that make the need for multiple libraries less important ignores the reasons why we have them in the first place. Knowing that so many users want or need their multiple libraries means that you should be making them more effective, not less of a priority.
Examples of things that actually would be useful:
- Allowing users to choose what is considered Related content (two shows airing on the same network doesnât make them related).
- Having Related content cross over between libraries
- Having the ability to mark actorâs guest appearances in episodes and have their credits cross multiple libraries
- The ability to store actor photos locally and/or lock it to prevent metadata refreshes.
Other features that would actually be helpful:
- Allowing Films and TV to be in one library if they are related.
- Resuming Playlists on Deck where we left off. A lot of us use playlists to put TV or film universes in chronological viewing order, not just for shuffling lists of random related content.
- The option to share Playlists when sharing your library
I love Plex, but when it comes to what the developers choose to prioritize, it often seems that the Plex agenda is in contrast to what their users would care about. Feature requests get no response, but Plex is constantly focused on putting âRecommendedâ front and center. Plex is designed as a way to manage your own content, so why is Plex so regularly focused on the âRecommendedâ screen? The last time they tried to force that down our throats they had to backtrack and make sure people had an option to set their Library page as default view.
In spite of some of the vitrol and passion in this thread, I want you to know we do appreciate your interaction in this thread. Generally speaking, we often get very little contribution from Plex in these forums. I just wish it sounded less like a politician and more interest in our particular points of view. We are obviously very passionate about how we use Plex, and often times the direction that Plex wants to go in seems like they donât respect how we use it and why. The implication that we are a vocal minority doesnât help. I rarely express my concerns here, so I can imagine a lot of others donât take the time to either. Again though, glad youâre here.
I donât have the time to read through 319 replies, but Iâd like to include my vote to have the option to remove the âRecently Addedâ column from EVERY library. Liked when it was just one column for Movies and one for TV shows.
- Fixed reduced number of items shown in hubs
In the latest version of the Samsung app (5.7.1) this issue has been resolved now, thank you.
However I still have a bug where my movie libraries, initially shown as separated titles in their respective libraries, merge after you click on one to view it then go back to the list.
As an example:
âRecently Added Movies - Filmsâ
Star Wars. Rambo. Avengers etc.
âRecently Added Movies - Kids Filmsâ
Frozen. Moana. Tangled. Etc.
If I click on a title and view the info page for it then go back to the list of recently added I see the following:
âRecently Added Movies - Filmsâ
Star Wars. Frozen. Rambo. Moana. Avengers. Tangled etc.
âRecently Added Movies - Kids Filmsâ
Star Wars. Frozen. Rambo. Moana. Avengers. Tangled etc.
If I navigate away from home then back it goes back to the first example but clicking a title will reproduce the bug, it does this every time without fail.
Hopefully that makes sense, if not then I can post some pictures.
Thanks.
I would please ask you re-consider this move, which I think has already been done.
This is PARTICULARILY bad for a Movies Folder that has multiple movie folders beneath it like, 1920âs, 1930âs, 1940âs etc. With this ânewâ method in order to see what movies have been recently added you have to scroll through dozens of screens to see what you could previously see in a single line. It DOESNT MATTER that holder the Recently Added movies are in, the important thing is you can SEE ALL the Recently Added Movies in a singular easy to see spot instead of checking 20 different areas for new movies.
Iâve had to opt out of the Early Access version for this very reason. It makes it INCREDIBLY difficult to see a list of new movies (regardless of their folder location) when you have to look inside each folder. If this is a feature you have decided you want to keep, could you at least have a switch to GROUP ALL RECENTLY ADDED into the two main video folders, being TV and MOVIES.
Many of us donât want to dump every genere, every year, every specialty folder into a singular MOVIES folder because itâs more desirable to be able to open the lefthand menu and scroll the the folder you want and then browse that genre, year, or whatever. There needs to be an easy way to dump ALL new movies, regardless of folder, into a singular location, like youâve ALWAYS hade in the RECENTLY ADDED MOVIES.
I have run into this EXACT problem as well. It wasnât broken before, so why fix it? All we are asking for is for the RECENTLY ADDED MOVIES (OR TV SHOWS) that there is a SINGLE line of what was recently added. It doesnât matter what folder they were added to, just that it SHOWS under the RECENTLY ADDED MOVIES or TV SHOWS the ACTUAL newly added movies or TV shows and not in individual lines by folder content. Itâs important to many of us to maintain sub-folders under Movies and TV Shows for generes, years, etc. and weâre just asking for a way to display them in a SINGULAR line, not have 20 lines that each pertain to each folder.
The only way to achieve this right now is to opt out of the Early Release version. I donât understand why this was changed to begin with, but surely it can be controlled by a setting or switch that the end user (us) can toggle? One for group ALL Recently Release Movies into on line, or NOT GROUP all Recently Released Movies into one line.
Please consider this as itâs an absolute mess right now as indicated by the screen shot above! Thanks for your consideration.
If you use âCollectionsâ you lose the hub for âRelatedâ items in your library.
As an example, I added âThe Stand,â âCastle Rockâ and âThe Tommyknockersâ to a Stephen King Collection for TV shows. Now all I see are items from the collection for every series. (so basically 3 items) When I delete the collection, I have up to ten related shows for each series, and each show can and does have different items in the Related Shows hub.
I gave up on the âCollectionâ option some time ago, because of this limitation. It didnât improve discovery or rediscovery of items in the library, but seemed more to restrict it.
I have very few collections. Theyâre a bit tedious to set up, and I have to remember to maintain them as new content comes out.
Also, Iâve found that if I play a movie that exists in a collection, that Plex will automatically start playing the next film. Not entirely desirable when I use movies to fall asleep, and have to mark things as Played the next morning that I didnât intend.
If that happens (playing the next film), itâs another reason to avoid the suggestion to use collections rather than separate libraries. I can see my grandkids having a three day run of unwatched, continually streaming movies if I put all of their movies into a collection rather than a separate library. Iâm pretty sure their way of stopping the movie is turn the TV off, leaving the device go on itâs merry wayâŠ
Plex must make a collection into a playlist if that happens⊠just thinking out loud here.
To add my own comment on collections, Iâve them disabled for my libraries. Never really took to collections so am just happy I can disable them.
Collections are not similar to Libraries though, not sure why you are recommending them for this situation. They donât have the sorting features, the related movies or the ability to pin them to the lefthand sidebar. In addition, Collections have to be created and updated manually, while libraries are updated as soon as the file is added to a folder.
If there was a way to pin saved filter searches to the sidebar, that might be a workaround, but the real question is why try to break this in the first place?
Iâm going to have to respectfully disagree with this. I never launch from inside a collection when Iâm falling asleep, and I always have to mark the next film in the series as watched if I extend the sleep timer beyond the first films run length.
EDIT: This occurs on Rokuâs, but I donât think that matters.
Just tested and confirmed. Started a movie (that exists in a collection) from outside the collection. Next movie in the series started. Unless Iâm missing a setting somewhere, it happens.
Movies library, sorted by title. I believe Iâm as top level as you can get, browsing the entire library. I have the Roku set to not remember the last selected tab, so pressing directly on the Movie library from the left menu takes me to the full list.
In this case, I have a Star Trek collection, with all of the Trek movies in it. When I launch Star Trek II from outside the collection at this top level, upon end, it will roll right into Star Trek III.
Totally happy to figure out why weâre experiencing different results. Ideally, I would like this NOT to happen if I can. This library also contains shows from the show side. I wonder if thatâs the trick? Will test with a different collection here in a moment.
EDIT: Sure enough⊠just launched Goldeneye, and it proceeded to Tomorrow Never Dies with an âUp Nextâ 15 second countdown inbetween.
I believe @pluxology is opening the collection then launching an item. This method apparently plays one title only.
We have the choice of seeing either the collection, the items or both.
