On Deck, Continue Watching & Recently Added

When I switched to manual Plex created an identical RA row for each movie library and identical RA rows for each TV library. I just deleted all but one of each.
Not something that’s fun to do on every client but better than the mess.

If only that were true for the Android TV app! You never know what you’re gonna see each time you open it no matter what the setting is, and the best part is, it will change after you’ve watched something and returned to the home screen. There seems to be a failure to communicate between the server and the app.

I have a Shield but don’t use it with Plex a lot. I do notice that you have to exit a library and go back in before an episode or movie is shown as watched.

My real problem is the complete disorganization of the release of all of the Android 8.12 versions. It was obviously built and released with almost no testing whatsoever, given that extremely common formats would not even play.

As for the home screen, I get that the duplicates might have been an accident originally. It was annoying, yes – but a lot of us have the ability to fix that ourselves (I know that there are those with family member where that is problematic). But it is quite another thing to make untested changes to the home screen in 8.12 that make the problem so much worse without even telling us. If the goal is to aggravate your users even more unnecessarily, well “Mission Accomplished”.

I understand that you are not personally responsible. But I wanted to be heard. Plex needs to get that Android users are really upset.

We really need to see a focused effort to have a clean version for once so that we have something to go back to when problematic versions are released. This would obviously include a working home screen, ability to play all the common formats, and finally able to play recordings in progress reliably in Live TV/DVR. We don’t need new features right now. We need things to get fixed.

I still have Continue Watching on all of my devices, including Android mobile…

curious… do you have more than one TV library?

On Deck in manual mode seems to only show items from one library. Don’t know how the app/server chooses the library. I would imagine if there were no On Deck items in the library Plex chooses, there would be no On Deck.

In automatic mode, it shows items from both libraries. Any customization of the home page (removing an unwanted hub, for example) puts the device in manual mode, and On Deck shows just one library again.

Or, it could be the return of the bug that was here, that I found a work-around that gave back my “On Deck”

I have two TV libraries and 4 Movie libraries.
I am seeing the same bahaviour, version 8.13 on Shield.

My Recently Added is TV 1
On Deck is TV 2

I can remove On Deck from Home. Go to TV 1, add On Deck to Home. On Deck shows TV 2.

It’s the same for Movies. I removed all Recently Added Movies from Home. Added Movies 1 Recently Added to Home. Home shows Recently Added Movies 2.

Yeah, obviously, there’s a major bug in the latest Android TV app for the home page. I gave up quickly, because the previous version wasn’t much better. I left it on auto-manage, which gives me two rows of recently added TV, not in any particular order, with episodes from both libraries.

The “new and Improved” home page features mentioned in the first post are not looking too promising yet.

I seldom use the Home section on any device. Now I wish it was a section that could be hidden.

My Plex Home screen on both my Shield’s, and also it appears on my Android phone, are a mess. I have several “movie” libraries and whilst some of them show just one of the libraries contents several show a mish mash of several libraries. It’s like it can’t decide whether it’s a unified listing or specific to a library. This also changes when I delete some of them.

For example I have a “Music Videos” library and a “Movies” library and several of the recently added listings show a mix of the 2 libraries contents and not even remotely in the order they were added to the server.

I can understand what you are trying to do and I would be happy with customisable recently added if it worked but I would want to be able to label each one with the library it corresponds with and only if it shows the correct contents.

No matter what I change at the moment I cannot get the correct stuff to show on the Home screen which is really annoying. This should have been a beta feature rather than just rolling it out as the backlash has been immense! Hardly anyone likes it even if it works.

@DaveBinM … so far the

and the

have been a dismal failure. Particularly on Android TV devices. The best way to customize your Android TV device, is to disconnect it, and connect an old Roku in it’s place.

I realize that this is a bug/shortcoming in the Android app. But implementing a change at the server level that the app developers haven’t fully integrated yet to correspond to those changes is simply ridiculous. Please, roll back the change at the server level until all of the apps are able to use the “cool new features” properly.

If there were two Android Devices and a pistol sitting on an end table - the pistol would be the best choice, given the Hellish Nightmare Plex has unleashed on it’s Android users.

If you have an old Roku - it beats the Pistol/Android Device Combo.
Hands Down.

… and a Shield will never darken my door 'cause Nvidia makes it, but I do have a few FireTVs so I can experience the Hellish Nightmare. I’d love to use FireTV, but that’s been out of the question for many years - due to it’s Plex App Development Fail - the FireTVs are fine.

My Rokus are the weapons of choice - 'cause the app is, IMO, the apex of Plex’s Device App Fleet and the best I can do given the available devices.

I understand you qualified it with IMO but the buying public does not agree.
Like Apple, they are not necessarily the best but it’s what people buy.
They are easy to set up for the inexperienced.

Which I acknowledged. I don’t agree but that doesn’t make either of us wrong. Just different opinions. I have 5 Roku devices because my wife is used to them. The Shield is a device only I use.

I didn’t say they were top selling but 30% of a market is a big chunk.

@pluxology I’ve had a look at the two issues you linked to. One I’ve asked for more details (sometimes we need exact steps to know what’s happening), and the other already has two employees involved who have acknowledged it but is behind other higher priority issues.

@anon5074910 As you mentioned with your first issue, that’s being rectified with the new agent. The second is more a UX decision than a bug, per se, and the comments have been fed back. We use different designs for Web/Mobile/TV, but each device type should be consistent across platforms. Your third one has been acknowledged and should be fixed in the next version.

@AmazingRando24 The UX design has been discussed at length, and as I said in that thread, it takes time for feedback to be collated, analysed, new designs to be done, and then implemented. You should already be seeing some of those changes (such as episodes appearing below the text and focus defaulting on episodes) on some clients already, and rolling out to others in future.

@mcrommert I’ll look into that one and file as appropriate.

@MovieWiz Yeah, that was not the smoothest release, and there has already been an internal retro on that to try and prevent things like that happening again.

Does anyone know if home screen customization is working properly in Plex For Android 8.12.4? There’s no mention of changes in the releases notes – but then there was no mention of the home screen in the release notes for the prior 8.12 versions that broke the home screen. I’m on 8.11 and plan to stay there for now. Instead I’m busily trying out Jellyfin to see if I can be done with Plex.

Can you define “properly”? When I tested it, it worked as it should have :man_shrugging:

Didn’t for me, but I didn’t spend too much time with it. I reset customization, set to auto manage, and I saw the same mix and match, repetitions between library types in the recently added hubs. Manual control ended up with losing a combined on deck and continue watching only showing from one library, so it’s not quite ready yet.

Properly means that we can add hubs and they actually show up. Currently, if you have 2 libraries of the same type, hubs (any hub) only show up for one of them. It’s a huge problem that has been documented in other threads.
