The people that thought this was a good idea were the same people that told George Lucas Jar Jar was an amazing character. This is Plex’s Jar Jar Binks moment.
Plex, this update is garbage. Listen to your users. CW and OD should be configurable and recently added should be configurable as well. I don’t want hubs for all my libraries. Let users decide how it looks, not the owner of the server. I probably have different wants than my users. This is simple.
I also find this frustrating and would like on deck back or more items in continue watching. Shows I was watching last week don’t even seem to show up now.
Please unmerge On Deck and Continue Watching. It was a wonderful feature before it was merged. Thank you.
I have no idea what’s happening as I’m not going back and reading threads but I assume this post is people complaining about you breaking On Deck / Continue Watching. I wanted to let you know that Plex on Fire TV is useless to me now. 10 shows in Continue Watching and NO On Deck? WTH is wrong with you? This makes 0 sense.
I legit thought something was broken and had to go out of my way to find out the “engineers” actually planned this? No Friggen words. Honestly. 10 shows to pick - that’s it? No way to change or adjust? SPEECHLESS
So is the merging of On Deck and Continue Watching an effort to clean up screen space for a Watch List on the home screen? I’m still looking for that after it was alluded to over a year ago when Movies & Shows on Plex was released.
- I like it!.. Jar Jar Plex

So I was curious this morning, and decided to mess around with some things, and on both my Shield and the internal Android TV app on my Sony XH95, and also the new HTPC app, I have ended up with the following on my home screen…
Continue Watching > Currently showing 1 part watched movie which is correct.
On Deck > Showing all 8 series I am currently following.
A recently added for each library that is pinned to the sidebar.
I can’t speak to any other client, but perhaps others might give this a try…
EDIT: I am currently on Server version > 1.22.1.4228
On the Server, go to Settings > Manage > Libraries…

Then for each library listed, when you hover over the line, you will see
![]()
Click on Manage Recommendations to expand a bunch of tick boxes.
Go through each library and pay attention to which items you want on the Home screen…

Once done, go to your client, go to the Home screen, and select the 3 dots against the Home line…

And from there, select Reset All Customizations…

Now go through the process of selecting which libraries you want pinned, and… VOILA !!
EDIT 2: Yes, there is still a RA for each library, and yes, the web app still has combined CW / OD, but at least the apps that I actually use for viewing are easier to use.
Are your Home screens set to Manual or Automatic in the apps?
There doesn’t appear to be either option available to choose, so I’d guess Automatic is the only option.
Ah OK. Thanks, that makes sense ![]()
The work-around by @axemanuk666 above to split Continue Watching and On Deck is likely only going to work for another couple of weeks, because I believe it requires the home page to be manually managed. It was mentioned earlier in this thread (and others) that that option will soon be gone.
Whether or not that date and decision is permanently etched in stone might be debatable, time will tell.
The last bullet point from Universal Continue Watching (Experimental Feature) before the thread was closed says
Keeping On Deck Separate from Continue Watching
We’re still looking into how the underlying desire here might be best addressed, but we don’t have anything specific to share right now.
When it was still an experimental feature, it seemed to be a “User” option, as it was enabled/disabled from the users account page. That is, it wasn’t a server option that the admin controlled for all users.
I realize that the code around all of this has progressed and changed over time, in the server and in the apps, but if it was a user option just two months ago, one would think it should still be possible. It seemed to work well as an experimental option, so I can’t see why it wouldn’t work without the “Experimental” label.
Just wanted to mention - though this thread has gotten quite large … I am one of the people happy with this change and was looking forward to it when it came up in past threads.
I’m not happy with the limit being imposed because there’s a setting specifically for that so I think that not adhering to that setting was a bit of a fail but overall I definitely prefer this new combined setup vs the previous split OD\CW.
Actually that’s not entirely true.
When I go back to the 3 dots on the Home line and choose Edit Home Screen, I see this…

Which implies I am still using Automatic. However you might be right regarding how much longer it will continue to work…
Ideally we would have the choice. Either a specific setting or keep the option of Manual Home.
I didn’t try your tip on an Android device, only in Plex Web. Automatic mode in Plex Web combined the hubs, manually managed gave me the results you showed. The fact that Manually Managed and Automatic don’t work consistently across all the apps has been an annoyance for me since the beginning of this adventure. I’m not opposed to changes, and generally adapt and/or accept most things. But I do think more attention should have been focused on how the apps worked with the changes, and make sure they are functional in all cases before they are applied universally. I’m not sure that happened this time.
Oh I definitely agree that there are inconsistencies across the apps, and indeed I did confirm this doesn’t work the same for the web app, however it does work for the Android TV apps, and for me, that’ll do for now.
I just noticed today that my “On Deck” is no longer present, which led me to this thread.
The biggest gripe I currently have is that there seems to be no way to “Go To” your Continue Watching as you could with On Deck. I have a long list of shows I’ve started but not finished, and now I can’t see more than a few. I think it should AT LEAST be made to be browsable the same way On Deck was.
Fair point for sure. I’d prefer choices too, question is how to do that without a manual home option?
Admins have been asking for a long time to have more control over client side setups… more unifying experience etc … and that means no manual home setup. Plex has added more options for admins for automatic home controls so that’s helped and more options are supposedly coming so that sounds promising.
For me, the trick is where to put the option for split vs combined?
As a user I might have 3 different servers setup in my Plex home (I think single server is the most common situation by far but multiple servers is not uncommon). 3 different admins can’t coordinate OD\CW for my home … so it’d have to be a client option. Would split\unified OD\CW option on client side be feasible? I really don’t know but that seems like the only way to provide the option and I don’t know enough myself to know if that would work or if that might be too much for the clients to manage.
Isn’t that pretty close to how the feature was when it was “Experimental?” I think it was a user option, not client option, so all apps would follow the option set by the user.
I also think the apps have to mange the OD/CW hub, regardless. I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think individual servers actually talk to one another and share what has been partially watched and on deck, and then decide which server is going to provide that info from all of the available servers to the hub. And if they do, that just seems wrong, somehow…
