Universal Continue Watching (experimental feature)

As several folks here have noted, we’ve started rolling out the “universal” continue watching functionality in our apps. As such, we’re also going to close this forum topic, since the experiment has ended. We really appreciate all the feedback that’s been provided here. It’s been very helpful! Our team is paying attention and we’re taking a lot of the feedback into account as we move forward.

Now, obviously we’re never going to make 100% of people happy 100% of the time, but we wanted to provide some information on some of the common points made recently:

Fanart/Background Images

We don’t have any immediate plans to switch the items in the row back to using the “landscape” aspect fanart/background images. However, that doesn’t mean that we aren’t interested in some of the benefits that existed with those. We have an upcoming experimental feature that will more prominently feature fanart for your movies and shows and definitely rewards those of you who put time in and carefully curate background images.

Merging “Recently Added” Rows for Same-Type Libraries

We’re already working on the ability for server owners to specify that “Recently Added” rows can be merged together again when displayed on the home screen. That will be available soon in an upcoming update.

Number of Items from a Library/Source

While we initially increased the default count (for contributing to the row) in the media server from 6 to 20 based on this feedback, we will also be adjusting things so that some of the existing Continue Watching/On Deck-related settings in Plex Media Server can influence this. That should make this more configurable for folks.

Keeping On Deck Separate from Continue Watching

We’re still looking into how the underlying desire here might be best addressed, but we don’t have anything specific to share right now.
