I just got an update that changed the number to 20, but PLEX - it needs to follow the configuration on the server for continue watching and On Deck. 20 is still not enough - I had 50 things in on deck.
Nothing was missed during testing, they fully 100% knew exactly about the limited number of items being forced via the new CW. I myself raised this on the forums back in feb when it was announced as experimental. I also know of other channels where this was discussed at length prior to roll-out.
The facts are the designers of this feature believed that folks with large on deck lists are an edge case and not the atypical use case. They never properly accounted for it and/or discounted it as not important to them. IMO, they never considered family accounts. folks who watch together sharing an account and the many other examples outlined on this thread.
This is why they are now scrambling to get the 1.23 update done as they have had to shift gears after seeing how folks really use plex.
Yet now they say they are going to fix it.
Why test if youâre going to ignore the user response?
People seldom need the use of seatbelts but we still have them. Ok, not exactly the same scenario⊠
Yet now they say they are going to fix it.
This is spin IMO but I guess you could argue they are going to fix the design flaw.
Why test if youâre going to ignore the user response?
Which is why I WILL NEVER EVER EVER test and spend my time providing feedback again to plex. Utter waste of my valued time. If I sound bitter you can be darn sure I am!
I have read a lot of this thread and a few others and I really wish there was just a document that showed âthese are the sections of the screen (Continue Watching, On Deck, recently added, recommended, etc.) and changing this box affects âthisâ section in this way. This value changes this portion.â
I am sure I am the small set of users, but all of this is very confusing, especially when the changes I make as an admin affect others of my users.
Pretty sure they just donât care. There have been numerous examples here of how this ruins the Plex experience for many people, uses cases that are totally reasonable, that they seemed to have not predicted, or if they did, they did not care.
Rather than roll back to previous code where things were harmonious they seem hell-bent on running full speed into a pit of despair. They could slam on the brakes and make a U-turn, and theyâre not. Iâm not new to Plex, but am new to the forums (because everything always worked fine previously) but what Iâm reading is that they do not care, and breaking things that work fine under the guise of âprogressâ is typical.
This is very disappointing to hear. Itâs more like this is âchange for the sake of changeâ and theyâre coming up with poor reasons to justify it, ignoring all the myriad use cases they never considered, have now broken, and do not care about. We have like 2 employees trying to tell us âno, this is what you want!â and theyâre ignoring everything to the contrary (which I understand is also typical).
So, hereâs where Iâm at:
Running 1.22.2.4282 on Synology.
Web client, multiple machines have the same experience:
Home â CW: Shows one partially watched movie. Thatâs it.
TV lib â CW: Shows 6 shows. This sucks, as I had many more On Deck that are now lost.
What is the point of having CW on Home if it does not show all libs? Under TV lib, hovering over CW shows that it is on the home screen. Remove it, go to Home, and yes, CW is gone.
OK, go back to TV lib, hover CW, click icon to add it to Home. Go to Home, and the only item listed is one partially watched movie.
I cannot tell if something is broken, or if this is how itâs actually designed to work. I believe itâs not working properly, based on other comments in this thread, but this could easily be some PMs stupid idea of âprogressâ: taking next-up TV episodes off Home.
Either way: On Deck: Perfect to see what shows are up next, more than the 2-4 some people here list (who also are apparently not working with a family sharing a single interface, one of which thinks he is the majority and everyone else is fringe).
CW: Perfect way to continue something that is unfinished. Not like âa series is unfinished, you have episodes left!â but literally âi was in the middle of viewing, stopped, and want to pick up where I left offâ.
Two different tasks, two different headings.
Thatâs gone now. Plex does not care.
âSix enough entriesâ. Plex does not care. They donât care to even learn how people use the product, they rely on the small, fringe number of people that use beta channel and are regulars on forums, who we see do not at all represent the majority of the users. But, they keep using this fringe group as their baseline for âthe average Plex userâ which is wrong and stupid, yet they keep doing it.
And now we find that your client is not going to honor the amount of items you want to see with respect to shared servers youâve been invited to, youâre at the mercy of the remote admin, and weâre told to talk to them and force them to bend to our will and change their own, personal settings. Because to Plex engineers, that just makes perfect sense.
I donât get it. Iâve worked at software companies, Iâve seen tremendously stupid things done in the name of âprogressâ but this is by far the worst.
I agree Stu, the CW and OD merge is a problem for many and my main problem with it was the limited number of shows you can have in it. 6-10 seems to be what people are saying, which is suppose to be increased to 20 with the next update.
And thanks dokuro, I didnât know they did receive negative feedback like that in beta
I feel much better knowing it wasnât a mistake but a purposely implemented design feature they got negative feedback on and simply ignored because they donât care LOL
I have reached the same conclusion as Stu. They donât care and greed, not customer satisfaction is at the heart of this entire issue.
They were going to make these changes regardless of feedback to save money by streamlining the UI
I get that, itâs a business theyâre here to make moneyâŠBUT
Now thereâs a new thread about people whoâs remote streaming is dead after the update and theyâve spent hours and hours tearing their whole network apart trying to find solutions.
This is time people should be using to enjoy their media, not hunting all over the internet to fix problems you created.
If Stu and many others canât even tell if theyâre experiencing a bug or purposeful design change I think itâs a good indication something has gone horribly wrong
Doing things like this just appear to be amateurish, lazy and cheap.
@DaveBinM The new âremove from CWâ is a fantastic addition! Any chance we can get a âadd to CWâ as well?
I donât think there will be an âAdd to CWâ, but we are working on a Watchlist for personal media, as we have for the VOD content
Thanks for responding!
It would allow one to put movies up on CW instead of putting them on a playlist, which gets buried way below other rows. Playlist handling is not the best and sometimes impossible on non Web client. I have not found a way to put items on (or off) my playlists on AppleTV for example. (maybe I am just blind which is a high probability)
This would also work well for new TV Shows I know I wanna watch.
Currently I have to open the movie/show, skip forward a few minutes so it is marked as half watched to have it up there.
So⊠âOn Deckâ, only in a less-convenient location in the UI.
Maybe a new thread with an updated FAQ for this change ⊠particularly since there are answers to some questions\concerns buried in it. Iâm following the thread and still lose track! Itâs almost to 800!
Might be good to break it out with OD\CW merge and Recently Added library changes as their own threads.
So⊠âOn Deckâ, only in a less-convenient location in the UI.
On Deck would bring up the next unwatched episode. I suspect this Watchlist feature will only hold the episodes you add to it.
Maybe not. Hopefully we get some info on it.
Hopefully we get some info on it.
We will.
When it arrives broken and has taken over our lives.
Aw, youâre just basing that on everything Plex has done lately. This could be different. Couldnât it⊠?
Statistically something has to go right eventually.
Like Iâm sure John McClane will eventually go on vacation and not get involved with any terrorists
Itâs bound to happen
It will work in a very similar way to how the current watch list works for VOD content, so you can have a look at that to get an idea on how it would work
8 posts were split to a new topic: Plex Movies & Tv Watchlist doesnât show on home screen
This seems like a bug. On the Android TV client the new combined Continue Watching hub disappears when I try to switch to a manually managed home page. The Continue Watching hub it nowhere to be found unless I switch back to auto managed.
My server is still running v1.22.1.4228, in case that is part of the issue.
