On Deck, Continue Watching & Recently Added

Unless you had a Roku - then you could have REMOVED (Partially Watched) TV SHOWS FROM CONTINUE WATCHING - THE WAY YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO IN EVERY CLIENT… but, Nooooooooo…

People ARE GOING to watch TV Shows at 100 to 1, more often than they’re going to not watch a Movie to completion so their Movies are NEVER GOING TO SHOW UP in Continue Watching, but if they do, they’re going to get buried again almost immediately.

Happy Now?

Nobody else is.

Come on now…, that’s seems optimistic.

Correct. That’s the way mine shows on v8.15.

I don’t think anyone expects exact numbers. Maybe a rounded off percentage? The Product Facts say 20 million users.

For me specifically yes. If I know I have two TV Shows and a Movie partially watched it’s easier to find them in a 3 item row than it is in a 20+ item row. You are correct though, I normally don’t have many items in a partially watched state.

I think I would prefer customized lists. That way I could set up a list of shows that I want On Deck. I believe Dave mentioned this type of thing recently.

In the end, if I find the Home screen too annoying to use I’ll go back to picking from the Library. My wife already has.

Agreed, 100%.

But I’m not expecting plex to add that anytime soon. Its been asked many times and has stayed as a feature request with no sign of it coming. They’ll want their own so called smart lists to auto populate VOD stuff if you have it enabled.

Maybe I’ll be proved wrong

We have already said publicly we’ll be adding a watch list where you pick things to add that you’re interested in watching, and will only be populated with content of your choosing

Okay, great. Sorry @DaveBinM I did not see that mentioned so thank you for correcting me. I’ll really look forward to the day that comes.

It’s been dependent on the new movie and TV agents being ready (TV agent still in beta), but is something on our schedule

Would it work like On Deck, meaning I could add a show and the list would dynamically go to the next unwatched episode, or would it be a simple list of episodes?
Is there anything to read on it yet?
Too early perhaps?

If it’s not exactly a new policy maybe being more transparent about your methods should be.

I suspect that no one actually knows the number.

Or the number of people who beta tested these features is so low that it would be somewhat embarrassing to reveal

The number of people who participate in a beta program is released by plenty of companies which you can find out about with a simple google search

This has nothing to do with releasing any proprietary information or disclosing any features that Plex will eventually implement

If you include people yapping away on reddit and Plex employees being part of the beta group I’m left with the impression that these experimental features aren’t being tested with the highest standards and practices

Using your own employees is what most would consider a conflict of interests and is a bit like asking inmates what security measures the prison should implement

More like asking the prison guards what food the inmates like best.

At this stage, it’s a little too early. We do have a Watchlist for our VOD content, so it may be similar to that, or we may evolve them both as we add in personal media.

I’m being more transparent than we have been before. While we do know the number, providing it is not going to fundamentally change anything, nor have we been in the habit of providing these kind of numbers in the past. We are not just including people “yapping away on Reddit”, but invite users from our forums, and Reddit to an internal forum where they can test things pre-release, and provide direct feedback to us. As for using our own employees, we are all incredibly passionate Plex users, with strong opinions on the product. The prison analogy is not a very good one and misses the mark, nor is it a conflict of interest. This kind of reply is not constructive, and does not help further the discussion in a good way. Please try to be more constructive.

Thanks for the reply Dave.

One thing I definitely do want to add, is I certainly appreciate managing this particular topic is not easy. Lots of opinions, and some quite shouty… I do think you have provided quite a lot of information over the last few days, and I’m sure most do appreciate that :slightly_smiling_face:

I guess once this has all settled down and some time has passed, it would certainly be worth @Plex looking back on this with a little reflection :+1:

@DaveBinM PMS version 1.22.3.4392 just dropped and it fixes the hard coding limitation with the number of items on the new CW. Have checked home hub and within a library on our various clients and all appear to be working correctly.

After this update I’m ok with CW… :+1:

This is all web client, for Plex running on Synology.
Home->CW shows one half-watched film.
Home->TV->CW shows 6 shows. The REAL burn here is when I go from Home, click to my TV library, it briefly shows 10+ shows (off the right side of screen, with the arrow above it) then quickly truncates down to a meager 6 (because Plex has no idea what we actually do or how we use their software).

I marked the movie as Unviewed. Home now has no CW category, despite Home->TV->CW being marked “show on home screen”.

So, this is beyond broken, as near as I can tell. Or…

…this. Maybe this is an intermediate stage in the transition from awesome to garbage? Maybe my install is broken? Maybe this “nothing works the way they say it should” is somehow… intended?

Who knows! “Is It Broken, Or Is It Plex?” {TM}

I’d suggest updating to 1.22.3

I rely on my server to tell me when to update. Currently, my server is not telling me an update is required (literally, green checkmark and “Up to date”). Logged in and checked immediately prior to replying, and nothing.

Additionally, as I use Plex on Synology there is no automatic update, I need to download it and install it manually. I rely on the server to hand me a link to a download When I ran Plex on Windows it always told me when to update, it’s what Plex on Synology typically directs me to do, and is what I am accustomed to. If I wanted to have to manually check a download page daily and manually compare the latest version to my installed version, I’d not be using Plex.

I don’t run beta code, because I (clearly) do not like broken junk (which, let’s be honest, is what this new methodology for taking freedom of choice from us, is). I’m not going to go seek out a beta channel download, and have an even lesser experience of using beta code. I’ve worked in software houses before, I’ve seen what happened to our clients who ran beta channel, and I’m not going there. Plus, I see this is where your bleeding edge users are subjected to “new features”, and I really don’t want any more shoveled down my throat than these already bad changes.

If 1.22.3 is out, I expect my server to be cognizant of this, as it always has been for any other release prior.

If 1.22.3 is not GA yet, do you really, honestly think that telling a clearly upset user to run pre-release code that could easily break more things is a good idea? I understand you’ve been telling us that no, these changes are great, whereas they’re clearly not, and you’re clearly not taking that to heart, to you’ll have to excuse me if I don’t trust your word that beta code is an actual solution to anything.

1.22.3.4392 is a beta build so I’d guess your Server update Channel is set to public which is why it’s reporting up to date.

I’ve been running the build for a few hours and is working well with the limited CW now fixed.

That’s a Beta Build. Why would we switch to a Beta Build?
Apparently the Public Users are in it already?

These are the Emoticons Users are dealing with ATM: :-1: :rage:
