I guess the reason for my confusion is thinking plex would have already fixed this obvious mistake
Recently added is also broken for me on Apple tv. Maybe a plex employee will pay more attention to this thread.
Nup! ⦠Thatās why this thread is still going.
@WilhelmStroker - The combined CW/OD only shows content from libraries that are pinned to the sidebar, therefore if you have some libraries that are NOT pinned, then you will not see that content in the CW list.
I didnāt realize this. And now yet one more thing I donāt like about ānew and improvedā home screen.
I do occasionally go into a non-pinned TV library i or a friend have and watch stuff.
I hate having to add/remove pins just to get my home screen to have items i frequent or not.
I know that, and thatās not the issue here. When recently added is configured to merge recently added items, theyāre not shown on the apple tv home screen top shelf. Disabling that setting shows recently added for all my seperate libraries. Definitely a bug.
Is there a fix for this that you found?
I liked my 3 simple categories:
āOn Deckā
āRecently added TVā
āRecently added Moviesā
If users want to go into my categories, they can go into that specific folder ā right now, like you said, I have go through so many rows of āRecently Addedā rather than having a conglomeration.
Ugh
See merge recently added in this support article
Oh I see!.. So you are saying that it seems to behave differently on the ATV device than other devices / apps, such as on the Web App?
If thatās the case, then surely thatās a bug!
Yup, within the app itās fine, but when Plex is not running and pinned to the top row of apps, itās supposed to show in progress videos (which works fine), and recently added (which only works when recenlty added is not grouped, which is not desirable as i have a few libraries that barely ever change, yet they still show up). Definitely a bug in the Apple TV app.
@DaveBinM / Other Plex employees - please read my previous post & consider disabling this āfeatureā as an option - much like the recently added merge that was implemented after many users complained of these changes.
As I said in my post from last week, this design change does not work for all users and I think I have explained quite well the issues that this feature presents for users like myself.
This is the post to which I am referring: On Deck, Continue Watching & Recently Added - #1202 by Pow4Life181
Thank you.
So itās not as good as it used to be (when Continue Watching only showed me in progress items by themselves at the top of the screen and I will always maintain that Continue Watching and On Deck are two separate things) but with the new Smart Collections and the ability to pin them on the Home Screen, I at least donāt have to scroll through a ton of items to find things I was in the middle of anymore.
At this point I wish I could completely turn off the new Continue Watching on the home screen as itās useless for how I use my Plex, and would make my home screen much more user friendly for my family.
Itās a shame that you can customize everything on your home screen EXCEPT Continue Watching, and that is a steaming pileā¦
I just made the mistake of upgrading Plex and my libraries to this new version and I am greatly disappointed that On Deck is now missing. This is by far the most important feature of Plex that sets the platform apart from everything else.
Iām used to having a single quick list of shows Iām watching on my home screen so I can play anything in an instant. Am I really stuck with a primitive interface like Amazon and Netflix where I have to search through a huge list of TV shows now? Whoever thought this change was a good idea is completely disconnected from the people who actually use Plex!
You can remove the items you donāt want to appear in the Continue Watching hub.
Continue watching from what I see has very limited functionality compared to On Deck. I canāt find any options to sync my Continue Watching items anymore like I used to be able to do with my On Deck.
24 Hours now I have used the new version and I can at least say the Continue Watching section does seem to mostly function like On Deck used to. I was extremely worried at first when my Continue Watching section was empty after the upgrade by after searching through and finding series I was watching the list has populated.
I still am not a fan of this change however. I canāt find a way to sync data to my tablet anymore which was by far one of my favorite features of Plex. I setup a sync for my On Deck so anything I was watching was synced automatically and I could watch as a I traveled. This is no longer possible and some solution will be needed to allow this to work again.
I also still strongly prefer keeping Continue Watching and On Deck separated as I used Continue Watching for another purpose completely. It was easy to start watching something and back out to add it to my Continue Watching list if it was something that needed my attention later.
Overall I am disappointed in this change. I have used Plex for about 10 years now and this is the first time a change has been made that has had such negative effects.
You should enjoy this: Sync is Dead (almost). Long Live Downloads!
Time for me to start looking for another product as this team seems to have lost touch with why we fell in love with Plex in the first place.
Removing items that we fell in love with, changing our home screens with commercial garbage we have to manually constantly remove and now removing of ON DECK, time to start searching for another product it seems. I am just too aggravated with the direction this team is going.
