Is there a way to enable continuous play, to play through all On deck tv show episodes from one to the next as a playlist/ tv block?
example. lets say i have 4 tv show episodes on deck, from 4 different series…
a-team s01e01, the flash s01e01, tales from the crypt s01e01, mr mercedes s01e01
and i want to watch all of them in a row, without setting up a custom playlist manually…
can i enable on deck to do it automatically?
if not, this would be a great feature., as every week new episodes come out, and it would be able to play in new blocks. from one to the next
To save this as a playlist, click the Add to Playlist button at the top-right (it’s the one with the plus sign).
In the dialog box which opens, give it a meaningful name and click Create.
This playlist will now always contain all episodes which meet the filter criteria you specified. So, if you set the boxes above to Dated Added, in the last, 3, and days, this playlist will reflect that with new episodes rolling in and out as time progresses.
A solution to this that may be easier to incorporate into the system is to have a show status added to the filters of a smart playlist like “in progress” or “on deck”. Then you’d always be shuffling through the episodes on deck. In my opinion, the option to shuffle through on deck episodes is the biggest missing feature for tv libraries.
I came up with a decent (but not as perfect as this feature request) solution while we wait for on-deck shuffle to become a thing.
Create a smart playlist of the shows you want to include (I have a collection of “favorite comedies” that I am using for this purpose). Set your filters to include a specific show collection, last played was “not in the last 30 days” (or however long you want to go without reruns, and set episode air date to “within the last 50 years” which will filter out bonus features that default to 1900-01-01.
Then, set your sort to “episodes” and sort by “release date”. This will put all the episodes in chronological order and mix up shows that were aired along the same time (so the first Office comes up after S02E14 of Arrested Development).
Then, if you hit play on the playlist (make sure shuffle is off), it’ll always pick up where you left off and “mix” your shows for you. It’s still not perfect because you may have several episodes in a row if that particular show isn’t surrounded by other shows but for a large collection this could work great. Then you get the feeling of your own tv station without it being totally random.
I would also like this. Basically if the ability to reverse the sort was given, you would be able to do this - so once you had watched an episode of a show it would be added to the end of the Continue Watching instead of the beginning. Then I would not have to scroll through every single show on the Continue Watching to get to the end just to watch the next show in my order.
