On-demand subtitle not usable when multiple versions of media available

The problem exists when there are multiple versions of same media available.
So lets say I have a 4k version and a 1080p version of the same media.
Plex shows the 4k version on the episode page as default.

When I want to play the 1080p version with on-demand subtitles, I select Play version and start the 1080p version. I then use the video controllers to download subtitle for the media.
The downloaded subtitle however isn’t shown on the 1080p version subtitles.
If I stop the playback and return to the episode page, Plex shows that is has downloaded the subtitle for the 4k version of the media.

I’ll add couple of screenshots to more explain the problem.

Is there a way to use the on-demand subtitle downloading for other version than the default on?

Thanks!

I have the same/similar problem. I have 2 copies with different bitrates (& different names). On the high bitrate copy I was able to drag the .srt file on to the subtitle selection, but when I tried that or tried to select the .srt file, it was not accepted. The subtitle selection does show & will use, the embedded subtitles, it just won’t use, the external subtitle on the second copy.
server v.4.12.3
PMP v2.49.0.1041 & all other clients that I tried.

I’m also having this problem. Downloaded subtitles only work on the first file on the list that appears as default on the movie page.

Having this exact issue as well. On-demand subtitles do NOT work on any versions of a title that is not the default one. Tested and is reproducible on all of the latest versions (at the time of this post) of the players I have access to: the Android app (7.30.2.16712), Plex Web (4.31.2, and Plex for Windows (1.8.0.1159-67c4a549). Happens on multiple servers that are all different versions (including latest stable). Would appreciate a fix for this!

I can confirm that I am having the same exact issue as documented in the original post. I’m using the latest version of the plex windows app. This is an extremely annoying issue because I have subtitles on by default and I typically download a better version of the subtitles through the menu, but it will only ever play the original subtitles if I play a lower quality video.

I’m also in this same conundrum and hope Plex can get it fixed soon.
