One library merging show's with similar titles

I have an issue where shows with similar names in a library I have for children are getting merged together. The shows are also in the main library, however they are not merged there.

I found the exact same issue with a different show previously reported, however the steps in that issue did not resolve my issue.

File Paths:

  • V:\TV Shows\Secrets of the Zoo
  • V:\TV Shows\Secrets of the Zoo Tampa

File Name Examples, with path:

  • V:\TV Shows\Secrets of the Zoo\Season 1\Secrets of the Zoo - S01E01 - Run Cheetah Run .mkv
  • V:\TV Shows\Secrets of the Zoo Tampa\Season 1\Secrets of the Zoo Tampa - S01E01 - Stingray Stunner.mkv

Both are individually added as file paths in the Children’s library, along with a few other shows, however these are the only with similar names and are merging this way.

I used FileBot to rename them, and it pulled the correct names and moved them into the correct directories.

I’ve done the plex dance, unmatched and split apart and manually matched show names, however these are always showing up together.

The most confusing part to me is that my main library doesn’t merge the shows, and in the Children’s library both file paths show up under the episodes and I can’t get them split.

A last resort would be to create a new children’s library, which I do not want to do, as some of the shows I’ve had to manually edit and spent hours getting things to match correctly.

Does your “children” library point at the same files as your regular library?
If it does, you probably added each tv show’s folder indivually.

Which doesn’t work in Plex. You can only point a “tv show” library at the parent folder which contains all the subfolders of the individual shows. i.e. in your case V:\TV Shows

The main library is setup to the root directory

  • v:\tv shows

and childrens has it set up to be to

  • v:\childrens
  • V:\TV Shows\Secrets of the Zoo Tampa
  • V:\TV Shows\Secrets of the Zoo
  • V:\TV Shows\NOVA

The naming works for the 2 other TV Shows, just not Tampa. I can try to do a symlink for Tampa and see if it works in the V:\Childrens library, because I don’t want to have the files duplicated.
