Since none of his songs have an associated album, I thought to just put all the tracks in the artist’s folder. Plex did not like this and got awfully confused. Should I just make a fake album called “Singles” and put everything in there?
I did some searching online but the most I found was reddit threads saying that plex cannot handle this and that I’m out of luck, so I figured I’d ask here myself.
The artist in question can be found here, if this info helps in guiding what I should do: S3RL - MusicBrainz
No. Add them as Single releases. i.e. the same as albums. Use the release name as album name and use this name in both the folder name and the AlbumTitle metatag.
I can’t recommend you doing that. While it’s certainly possible, it will cause volume levelling to malfunction.
If you don’t like when Plex is ignoring singles and compilations for the Popular Tracks hub, consider overriding the album type via embedded meta tags as well (requires “Prefer local meta tags” to be activated). Thus turning all those singles and EPs and mixtapes into regular “albums”. Plex Media Server 1.27.2.5929 - support for release type embedded tags - #33 by certuna
Plex seems a lot happier with this solution, thanks!
Unfortunately now it is really cluttering up my album list with single track “albums”. Is there any way around this? I want to keep my album list clean and full of actual albums. Otherwise I’m going to have a million S3RL “albums” in my album list.
Did you already apply the AlbumType override? If yes, I suggest you remove it again. Of all the releases of this artist, only “Remastered (2016)” should appear as regular album.
Which Plex client type are you using? Could you show a screen shot (whole screen please)?
I cannot find the AlbumType override. The link you provided says something about an embedded tag but I only have 4 tags to choose from. Am I looking in the wrong place?
I was planning on making a “S3RL” playlist and adding everything there. Things can still be found manually by setting the view mode to “Tracks” or “Folders”, right?
