One series, 2 versions. How to play the same version for the entire series?

Hey there,

I have 2 versions of the same series, one in english and the other in french. For the moment, PMP plays the english version by default. I have to manually select the french version for each episode I watch. Is there a way to play the french version by default?

Thanks!

I think at best you can set a language preference which globally controls all media you watch. Pretty terrible.

I think you are holding it wrong

The ideal way for multi-language content is to have both audio (and subtitle) tracks muxed in with the same video file.
That way, you only need to store the video once.
And Plex has a preference page for language for each user, so Plex can activate the right audio track for each user automatically.

You however have apparently two completely separate video files.
I think the only way to make this work is to do the following:

Separate both versions of the series already at the folder level.
Like this:

TV Shows /
   Show Title [french] /
      Season 01 /
         Show Title [french] - s01e01 - episode title.mp4
         Show Title [french] - s01e02 - episode title.mp4
         ...
   Show Title [english] /
      Season 01 /
         Show Title [english] - s01e01 - episode title.mp4
         Show Title [english] - s01e02 - episode title.mp4
         ...

(The square brackets are important, they prevent the Plex scanner getting confused by the additional language information. Anything in square brackets is ignored by the Plex video scanners.)

If at first, Plex merges these two folders, use ‘Split’ at the ‘show level’ to make it into 2 separate tv shows again. Then you have to edit the title of each show to indicate the language version.

Of course the drawback of this method is that you have now 2 items in your library. One for the english and one for the french version.
