How to manage series in different languages (and files)

Hello there,

lets assume we have the German DVDs of a series and put them into plex. Now my wife bought the Chinese version of it and I would like to put them also into plex.

Is Plex able to handle both versions - how can I manage them best? I was thinking of two folders like:

My Series (DE)
My Series (CN)

Any idea how to solve that? I would like to be able to explicit choose whether I want to continue watching the German version or Chinese version.

Best,
Tom

That’s unfortunately not possible. Plex doesn’t distinguish “editions” of tv shows.
All you could do is to create a completely separate library for these foreign shows and use one of the old metadata agents for it.
Keep in mind that this workaround may not last forever, as these agents are on their way out.
It also means that these shows are cut off from newer features like the universal Watchlist and Discover.

Another approach would be this:
If the Chinese versions are not censored or in any way “cut” differently than your own versions, you could try and only extract the audio streams from there. Then mux them into your German version as additional audio streams.

Which audio stream is pre-selected can be set by each Plex user in his/her language preferences.
That way you also save the storage space for the Chinese video stream.
