I ask this questtion because my main 250GB OS hard drive where my current Plex Server is installed, have enought space for the database of the movies, but if i add the my Flac music collection in the same server i going to have problems because the database of Plex increase the space a lot.
My idea is set up another server in the same computer (Windows 10 October 2018 release) for the music only and can address the database (and the installation if is possible) to another hard drive and run the Music server from there.
What i need is:
-1 Server for Movies (already setting up and running)
-1 Server for Music only in a secondary HD for database and installation.
You can only have a single Plex Media Server installed on a computer. The only option I can think of to run two Plex Media Server instances on a single computer would be to run some form of virtualization software to have a second VM running whatever OS to run the second Plex Media Server instance. Why do you want a separate server for Music? Why not combine everything into a single server? I have Music, Movies, and a couple different TV libraries all on the same server. Put your music on the secondary HD and create a Music library on your existing PMS pointing the Music library to a folder on the second HD.
Well, that’s because the main HD with the OS and installed programs is a M2, but with only 250GB, i have left around 80GB only, I’m an old man, and my music library is around 5000 albums, the space is a compromise for the metadata in that drive.
I know that i can relocate the complete database in another HD, but the others 10 hard drives that i have are mechanical sata2 (not the ideal speed for manage large databases). So… i think that maybe was an option use separated servers for movies and music, and not because Plex can’t handle movies, shows, music and photos in the same server.
Maybe, install another Plex Server in a second machine for music only in my LAN, is going to be the option that cross my mind at this moment.
