Hi, I already have one server set up on my laptop for Movies & TV; I would like to set up another server for music only - I want to choose between the 2 servers on my Plex app on my Tv.
Why not simply add the music library to the existing server?
What do you want to achieve in particular that requires a 2nd server?? – sounds like a crazy idea to me
I agree with those who say “this isn’t a good idea”, however depending on your OS, you could use Hyper-V, VMWare, VirtualBox, or some other virtualization software to create a second OS in a virtual session on the same computer (you could use Ubuntu in it, which is free) and install Plex Media Server there as well.
However, just adding a music library is by far the most straightforward option. I personally wouldn’t use the virtual server technique.
I agree with the others. I will add that if you don’t want to see the Recently Added Music on the dashboard when you access Plex then uncheck the Include in dashboard option on the Advanced tab of the Edit Library screen.
Thanks Guys, so I can’t set up a 2nd server on the same pc etc. that is all that I wanted to know.
FYI, I want a second Server for music because my Server for Movies & TV already has 19 Libraries broken down into genres etc. Adding another 10 libraries for music makes it even harder to find stuff especially as the categories are now shown at the top of the screen as tiny boxes.
I like to easily choose my own categories e.g. Family Movies, Animation for the kids so they know what folders to use. For myself, I find it easier to jump into my own categories to look for movies and find what i am looking for.
As far as TV is concerned, I separate UK and US TV Series and then within each region I have New/continuing and Ended - again this makes it easier to find stuff and also keep TV series up to date.
I have a varied musical taste so have these categories - Classical, Opera, Rock, R&B, Gospel, World etc.
I share with someone who has only 2 categories - Movies (6,500) & TV Series (800+), I find it almost impossible to find something to watch quickly…
This is the reason that I like to have multiple categories, my family and friends also like the ease of finding content also.
It is personal preferences, I understand that, we all have our own personalities…
Coming from someone that also has lots of libraries (cough, 31, cough), I understand the desire. I don’t get how having another server helps though. With the newer UI in recent clients, having 1 or 2 servers doesn’t make a difference. You just select the category and all the libraries are there from all your servers.
