Hello, recently I was watching a show, which I have watched a few times before all the way through and never had an issue. Recently, I went to start it and noticed that subtitles for it no longer show. Tried turning on and off, also tried another PC and still no subtitles. Tried another show with subtitles and those worked with no issue, also the problematic show works on the web player just fine. I did not install any update or make any change aside from the client updates which happen on their own. How do I begin troubleshooting this issue? I checked the player log but didnt see anything of note in there.
Which type of subtitles is it? (SRT, ASS, VOBSUB, PGS, other)
Are there several subtitle streams in the file?
Have you tried to disable and then re-enable the subtitle stream?
Is this a MKV file with attached fonts? (you can check with MKVtoolnixGUI )
Theres one ASS subtitle stream, no fonts. I did try to disable and re enable. Also tried to change the default subtitle to none, no change. Let me know if theres anything else i can check; these have worked up until a couple days ago
Could you please extract the subtitle stream, zip it, then send it over to me?
You can use MKVcleaver (needs MKVtoolnixGUI installed) to extract the stream.
Ok tried MKVcleaver and it didnt recognize the file, heres the Mediainfo dump:

Did you install MKVtoolnix before trying mkvcleaver? You might need to tell mkvcleaver where MKVtoolnix is installed, in its preferences.
Figured it out, for some reason the programs cant see the files on the NAS for some reason. Here’s the file:
Dragon Ball Z - 050_Track04.zip (8.9 KB)
This subtitle has sometimes 3 different lines with the exact same timestamps i.e. they are supposed to show up at the same time.
Try replacing the existing subtitle with this version
Dragon Ball Z - 050_Track04_fix-duplicate_timestamps.zip (8.5 KB)
I’m not saying that you should fix all your subtitles this way. But confirmation will give valuable hints to the developers about what to look for.
Ok tried this, subtitles do not show with this file either. Works fine with the web player still though.
Have you ever attempted to customize the look of subtitles within Plex Player for Windows?
Ever edited the mpv.conf file?
Ever tried to implement a “zoom” to make old 4:3 videos filling up your 16:9 screen?
No, the player is completely default aside from setting the quality to maximum; at least as far as I know.
Is it perhaps caused by a certain subtitle format?
Does this SRT-formatted version work?
Dragon Ball Z - 050_Track04.eng.srt.zip (7.9 KB)
Ok tested this, also does not show subs. I did try a completely different show the other day on my Fire stick, didnt work there either but did after I forced Subtitle burn in on.
