Server Version#: Latest as of today (1.40.3ish?)

So quite weird, my friend, whenever he plays something (anything) on plex, it will display for him as “Direct Play”, but the quality is awful, and Tautulli can see him actually transcode to 720/480p.
The fix is to switch it to transcoding and back to original, and then it will play original… Up until the next movie/episode.
We have already cleared his caches, reset his apps, but since he has it on both an S8 Ultra (A new tablet worth a car back then), and his new S24 Ultra… I am sensing something is broken in his account.
Settings are all checked, nothing is set to transcode automatically and bandwidth isn’t an issue. All other devices and users so far work without issue, my own included.
I am clueless as to why this happens, and how to fix it at all. This has been ongoing for quite some time now, and I’m still looking for a solution to it.
Went through the original post, as someone who had a family member who was experiencing this, are you absolutely sure that there are no limitations set on cellular data?
My brother and I had this problem for weeks because he didn’t tell me he was using cellular data. So a combination of maximum on remote streaming and maximum on cellular data finally got him streaming at maximum.
I am 1000% sure, I’ve been running my plex server since 2018-2019 so I can assure you this isn’t due to configuration issue on my or his part.
I have made sure and by now I have checked the settings about 20 times. It’s all set to maximum/original quality wherever possible.
Also no limits set server-side, not to transcoding, bandwidth, quality, nada.
That’s why this issue is bothering me so much, I can’t find an explanation, and it only seems to happen on his account directly (as both his devices do this)
