Several years I.T. experience and I think PLEX Server remote user management is abysmal and totally non-intuitive for me as admin and also for remote family and friends who have multiple devices. I no longer promote PLEX because of consistent access set up failures. All other aspects of PLEX have seen continued improvement and enhancement, user management remains very bad.
Multiple remote user ages and device case needs: Android/iOS, ROKU, multi-age levels and I.T. skills
- Successful admin in-home and remote use via Ethernet/WiFi, cellular, multiple ROKU’s, iOS & Win 10. All folder, OTA TV & TIDAL access works fine for admin account.
- Adding remote access users to all libraries and content thoroughly confuses me and them and they fail to authenticate and become users.
- The PLEX “classes of users paradigm” makes no sense to me VS the simple and effective Western Digital My Cloud remote user set up, authentication & access to my NAS remotely.
This is a long standing problem for my NON-GEEK remote family and friends who just give up. Given that I cannot “see” exactly what they see as they stumble through your byzantine multi-step process in order to help them gain access is a HUGE black eye for me and for the reputation of PLEX.
Please focus on improving this and simplify the process of getting remote users up and running. I recommend simplified user classes and a single page for set up/invite and check boxes for allowed accesses.
