Could someone point me to a step by step set of instructions on how to add the different types of remote users to a PLEX server. I’m running a small PLEX server just for family but I have hours of trouble when ever I add a new user. I current have a mix of managed users and others with just folder access, weird and I have no clue why that’s why a step by step would be perfect.
It’s supposed to be rather straightforward…
Inside your Plex Home
Creating managed users
Open https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/plex-home and click Create Managed Account to create a new managed account.
Inviting somebody to your Plex Home
Plex Home should only be used to give access to members of your household. They will e.g. be able to use fast-user-switching and therefore see the other account associated with your Plex Home.
If you have e.g. a dedicated Plex account for your spouse or older kids, you can add those users to the Plex Home. Open https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/plex-home and click Invite Plex User.

Outside your Plex Home
Inviting friends
Open https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/friends in your browser and click Add Friends to invite users with their own regular Plex account (e.g. by their user name or email address).
If you invite somebody who doesn’t have a Plex account, they’ll get an e-mail with your invitation and are asked to sign-up too.
This is the to-go option friends and family outside your actual household/home.
Next step… manage library access
Once you have added or created the accounts, you can grant them access to libraries or single items.
