Only 306 of my 348 files are in the media library

Hello everyone,

Unfortunately, not all files / films are found or read correctly.

According to the terminal command (find . -maxdepth 99 -type f -size +100M -exec du -h {} + | sort -rh) I have 348 files in the directory.
Unfortunately, Plex only shows me 306.
For example, I have 8 films in a subfolder, but only 4 of them are displayed.
If I add this subfolder as a separate media library folder to Plex, all 8 films are found correctly.

Is there a way to see which files were not included and why?

Many thanks & regards

Thomas

I had already found and read this article.
Unfortunately, it didn’t help me any further.

As I said, 4 out of 8 films are found in a subfolder.
If I include the folder directly, all 8 are found.

Please tell/show/screenshot

  • the type of library
  • the folder structure down from the root of the library
  • the actual file names

My file system looks like this

/mnt/data/films/

In the “Jussi Adler Olsen” folder, for example, only “2007-Erbarmen - 1080p.mkv” is found, unfortunately not all the others.

It is similar in the “Harry Potter” folder, where 4 of the 8 films are found.

In some cases there seem to be problems with the special German characters (ü ä ö).

As soon as there was an “error” due to special characters, all others in the directory were skipped.

But not in all cases, other Folder with these german special chars, where processed correctly.

If you use collection folders, you must adhere more closely to the recommended naming.
Add at least the release year in parentheses, as explained in the naming guides.

And you need to investigate the special character issue. Most likely this has to do with a code page setting. If Plex sees such a mangled file name, it can throw off the scanner so much that it won’t find a good match of the title.
