I’m as disappointed as all of you guys at our lack of any progress. Ruuk is working on a huge re-write for another client, which is amazing, but unfortunately it’s been longer than everyone has expected and taken more time, and I’m super busy as well.

But we haven’t forgotten about it and it’s still something we care about. Before V18 comes out, I will get this updated for sure.

Thank you for breaking the silence. Transparency is key.

Indeed…However the most notable comment was “Ruuk is working on a huge rewrite for another client”. PMP anyone??
Putting aside the stall on development on this app a huge amount was initially achieved in a small amount of time. So if Ruuk
has been exercising his undoubtable talent in the new improved PMP, it can be assumed that it will be night and day compared to the current version.

I do wonder however, when the majority flash their system to check out the latest and greatest PMP…How many will ever come back to see PFK playing catch up.
For sure there will be users who won’t care about the PMP developments because they run Kodi for reasons other than just Plex and having both options on one device fits their needs.

I suspect however others are currently using PFK, not because they think its amazing… more that its less pathetic than any other current options for a TV based client.

My main issue with PMP will disappear the minute it adopts parts of the UI from Plex for Kodi.

Yes we know Ruuk is working on PMP as well as many others it seems. I expect to see a blog post at why it’s almost a year late on the redesign though…

I’m in shock that there’s still no tv theme music. I mean come on that’s basic.

Fair enough I hadn’t seen in confirmed that Ruuk was specifically working on PMP,
As for PMP, I just need vertical scrolling like we have in PFK.
Totally agree with theme music, its as basic as it gets. Probably one of the few things that Emby gets right. Plus they have it for movies too. That’s before you even get started on the moving pre-play menu backdrops.
One day maybe.
But then as you mention…even being generous with their time scale of end of Q1 early Q2, that’s at least 15 months late.

Yeah it’ll definitely include vertical scrolling. And considering they had a somewhat working alpha in april, it shouldn’t take that long anymore.
Unless they add Odroid C2 support to PMP I will stay on PfK

I’d probably switch if the UI improvements in PFK come to PMP and PMP becomes available on the Odroid C2. That would be a wicked combo.

Although if this is going to get proper maintenance and fixes / features currently missing added, I will stick with this.

ha. that’s actually pretty funny, that’s what the Plex guys said themselves … 10 months ago.

yeah also true
Plex must have spent so much money on PMP

Why? Ignoring something is totally free

haha good point!
I think they did a lot of work which didn’t produce a product in the end

I expect a lot of UI work that was done was scrapped when they figured out that the spec they gave to the Plex for Kodi devs was better than what they were working on themselves…

@keithah can you clarify if we will be seeing missing features or will it purely be maintenance / bug fixes from here on out? There are still quite a few missing features which is the reason I ask. It’s also unclear if this will be developed for V18 as well? Appreciate any insight you can provide. Would hate to see this work not reach its full potential.

I joined in 2013. Back then we had Plex Media Center… Shortly after they introduced a really buggy version of Plex Home Theatre which was supposed to be “the ****”… About 18 months later they introduced PMP because PHT wasn’t built properly…

So yeah, they have wasted YEARS trying to build a decent desktop client and yet we’re still stuck with PMP and it’s terrible UI.

They should skin Kodi, implement PlexKodiConnext at a lower level and call it an officially client.

PlexKodiConnect for the win! Heck it doesn’t even need a skin for Kodi, the Kodi 17 skin is awesome as it is.

It’s good yeah but I want the power of Kodi with the UI of Plex personally.

The problem with plexkodiconnect is its not an official Kodi Plugin and it
never will be because of how it works. Kodi needs to add support for remote
servers natively.

Why is that a problem? It works perfectly for me and is way better supported then the official Plex for Kodi app.

I am having problems getting On Deck to show on the main TV Shows screen. Do you know how to do this?

I go into Skin Settings → Main Menu Items —> Tv shows → Edit Categories → Tv shows (with the plex icon shown on the left)

At this point, I can see the On Deck option/folder, but selecting it just show its properties (Content, Path, add limit, etc) - I can not tell how to actually select it so it shows on the TV shows main screen

Take a look at steps 3 & 4 here.

Thx. Are you able to get On Deck (and such) to show in Estuary?

The directions linked do not seem to quite do it. I have had no problem getting On Deck (and other Plex ‘items’) to show in pretty much every skin I’ve tried - Titan, (Fuse) nue, and others - but adding sub-menus in Estuary is different.

Again, I can edit categories and see the Plex ‘On Deck’ item (among others), there just does not seem to be a way to select/modify it so it will show on the home screen.

Perhaps I will try post in the PKC sub-forum

Anyone porting the plex for kodi skin to kodi? I really like the layout and I can not find anything similar.
