Yeah, I totally feel this. I use English for metadata too, and even then some movies just don’t have a logo at all, which really messes up the look of the new UI. I love the idea behind it, but when half my library ends up with that plain text fallback, it just looks kinda unfinished.
Would honestly love a logo picker or at least some kind of manual override. Like, I don’t even mind if the logo’s not in my exact language — I’d much rather have a logo than nothing. Having the option to choose (or upload local assets like with posters) would be the best of both worlds. Let people who want fully localized stuff have that, and let the rest of us mix and match or fall back to English.
Right now it just feels like the new design relies heavily on logos, but the backend support for them is still super limited. Really hope they expand on this soon!
Really disappointing that Plex stopped responding here about whether users from other countries will be able to get to use the logos.
And I don’t mean being able to pick them myself, that is great of course (if it was actually available, when the new app has already been out for like two months). It is just stupid, that just because I have my metadata language set to German, that I should ONLY get logos for TV Shows and Movies, that have an own separate German title.
I have noticed something interesting: for almost every movie without a localized title I don’t get any logos - just like I and a few other people here have mentioned before.
BUT I realised that there actually is ONE title in my library that has a logo anyway. It’s “American Psycho (2000)”.
At first, I thought maybe someone just set this one specific logo to German, causing Plex to think that this is a localized German logo. But no, there is no German logo for this title in TMDB:
I also checked the history, but as far as I can see this logo has always been set to English. Plus I also only added this movie to my Plex Server about a month ago.
So my question is: Has Plex changed their minds about also getting a fallback logo if there is none in my language?
And I don’t have context to give right now which is why there hasn’t been much in the way of updates here. We have things that are higher on the priority list but I can state that we want to make this a good experience across the board so that will include working on the broader localized experience for everyone.
Now I was going to leave it at that, but I did take the extra step to dig in a bit here. We intend to provide the ability to upload your own logos for your PMS (like we do now for posters) and I found the tickets for this but they have not made it into the active development queue. Hopefully that will help when we get some time to get that build and shipped.
Like many people who don’t have their libraries set to English language, I’m frustrated that I can’t get all the movies with logos. I set to work adding missing PNG logos in my language on TMDB. Only thing is, some work but others don’t. I can’t figure out what settings are required to make it work every time.
Do you know the exact specifications required to display a logo?
In this example Chicago was originally released in english so re-uploading to French Chicago (2002) - Logos — The Movie Database (TMDB) will eventually be found by a moderator and they WILL be deleted.
It must have been very hard for Plex to find an English clear logo for such an unpopular movie. Especially in out-of-the-way places like the folder the movie is located in:
