Player Version#: No idea fiancee is using the living room tv. Newest version of the shield and it hasn’t complained about a Plex update so I imagine the newest version of the Plex app.
My home screen is all messed up as of a few days ago. Currently the only thing listed is On Deck one row. If I go to customize home all that is there is on deck and continue playing. When I exit and go back to the home screen it will show line after line of on deck continue playing on deck continue playing over and over again.
It used to be:
Continue Playing
On Deck
Recently Added TV
Recently Added Movies
That’s it and that’s how I liked it. Simple and effective.
This all happened one evening when I powered on the Shield and it showed those little orange boxes that says something like not connected or something. So I rebooted the Shield and it showed back up with line after line of the On Deck Continue Watching over and over.
I know there was a notice about the home screen changing soon which I didn’t switch yet because I like the way I have it. Not sure if this is supposed to be the “new way” but Plex it’s NOT THE WAY!
That’s exactly the way I had and liked my home screen and have seen many many people here say the same thing.
Unfortunately the beta testing plex did for this “upgrade” as they call it didn’t seem to pick up on that
I have a fire tv which has it’s own host of other problems which you can read all about if you quit your job, break up with your fiance and devote your life to for the next few years
I had to roll my player version back by side-loading an old version onto the fire tv
From what I remember this was an almost impossible task on a Shield or Roku but you probably know more about that than I do The thing is, on 4-22 you’re going to get a forced update to your server anyway, so I’m thinking it’s not worth the effort
Let me be clear, I would normally NEVER, NEVER EVER suggest a Plex Update and I haven’t updated my server. I won’t until they cram it down my throat on 4-22 but you may have no other option at this point
From what I understand there is some basic control of the home screen for your Shield but it will be controlled from the server side now
It won’t be what you like or what you’re used to BUT…
They’ve added several features that you couldn’t care less about…but 11 other people they beta tested this nonsense with are actually happy about, so YAYYYYYYY!!!
I’m kidding they did add a few things like universal continue watching if you watch shows off of multiple servers but Plex…did you really need to remove what seems to be one of the most popular setups for a home screen in order to accomplish that?
