I am not familiar with Plex and only experimented a few times with it.
It is a great piece of software but i can’t figure out just one thing (a deal breaker for me) :
Is it realy not possible to add movies (easily) manually? I have a lot of movies who aren’t presented correctly. That is no problem as long as i can add/correct my own data like covers, years, physical filelocation etc. I know it is somehow possible but very very lengthy and not for all movie-data.
The Plex GUI is (almost) perfect, user-friendliness is top, the suported formats are okay but i don’t find any option to add manually (in a normal way such as Synology DSVideo for example) a movie with my own data.
Like i said, i am not familiar with Plex so i gues i’m searching in wrong places?
The above will help you to tip off Plex to fetch the correct metadata for your movies.
If you don’t actually mean “movies” (i.e. stuff that you might see in a movie theater), but rather videos of your family, or instruction videos etc, then you want a library of the type “Other Videos”.
Thanks for the quick response , i already saw that option but i’m afraid that i must use about 50% of my media to set as “Other Videos” because of the formats (for example ISO) that are not recognized. (Normal DVD (Laurel and Hardy) and/or BR-rips also not recognized, some do and some don’t) And i use for example a folder “Music Video’s” and when a Music Video is not recognized i must add this in “Other Videos” so that is not the way to go i think. I will try if i can move the Music Video data afterwards to the correct folder. Further is see there are naming recommendations i was not aware of, i thought (wrong) that Plex would search within the file itself. So for example 123.mkv is not recognized as een Queen music Video, i must name the file Queen.mkv?
There is no library type for Music Videos. These can only go into an Other Videos library.
Or with higher effort into a series library which has been set to “personal media”.
I use indeed personal media for the music video’s, sorry. The support (not) of ISO i was aware of. That’s a shame because a lot of programms who are not as good looking as Plex are much easier to add user data and support a lot more formats. Thanks again for the quick respons.
