Is there a way for the Plex DVR to only record repeat airings that haven’t already been watched? I have it set to record repeat airings of a couple shows but it seems to want to record every airing.
If the episodes already watched still exist on your system then Plex wouldn’t record them again. If you delete episodes after watching Plex removes all data about the episode from its database and will record it again in the future if/when it is aired again.
Not quite true. It knows that they are already watched. After they are recorded they don’t have the little caret in the corner that indicates they are unwatched. I realize I have a lot of storage but why should I keep something around just so it won’t record it again? That’s a waste.
They don’t have the new indicator as long as they are still on your system. Once they are deleted that watched status is no longer there because the show/episode is no longer in the database.
Here is an example of what happens when a recording is deleted. All screen captures included in one image. Top image shows all episodes watched. Second image shows Episode 10 deleted. Third image shows Episode 10 added back but now it is showing as a New or Unwatched episode.
Sorry, but I don’t think that’s true. Plex, at least seems, to keep track of which episodes you’ve watched even after they’ve been deleted. In fact, I just re-downloaded an episode from a show I’ve already watched and it was imported as being already watched. If it didn’t keep track I would expect that it would be imported as unwatched.

I see that, but my experience is just the opposite. I would rather not argue about this. I just did a test similar to yours. In my case this was an episode that was deleted months ago after I had watched it. I re-downloaded it and it was imported as watched.
I have done some communicating with a Plex Employee and the previous watch status is maintained by user, odd that my Admin account has never maintained previous watch status but my other home user accounts showed the deleted episode as watched. However, the problems with Plex recording only episodes that have not previously been watched is 1) what user account would be used for checking watched status since there could be multiple user accounts on a server, 2) once a show is recorded the watch status information is based on TVDB identifier, the EPG data is not based on TVDB identifier. You could always check the Feature Suggestions area for an existing request and if one is found add your vote for it, if not found you could create one.
