Onscreen error on playback via iOS app: ‘An error occurred loading this content, please try later’

Hi,
I used to be able to watch a film on the Plex app on my iPhone 11, running iOS 16.4, by streaming via my Apple TV.

For the past couple of weeks, however, the app seems to stream to the Apple TV (the advert plays for the full 30 seconds) but, as soon as the film starts, I immediately receive the error in the title of this post.

I thought the problem might be rectified by ‘a one-time purchase’ of £4.99 but it hasn’t made any difference…Plus, I’ve just checked & after barely 1/2 hour, the one-time purchase is not showing & pressing the ‘restore purchase’ button says no previous purchase found for this Apple ID…?! I’m only using one/the same Apple ID.

Please, what’s going on?

Can you name a title or two that you were trying to play?

I’m not really sure what this means. are you having problems watching on phone or on Apple TV?

Hi Big Wheel,

I’ve just been trying random titles as shown in the app, i.e: Fear X, Tom, Sin, Far Scape’; all show exact same message.

Film will play on iPhone, just not when streaming to Apple TV, never had a problem until a couple of weeks ago.

Funnily enough, I’ve just tried streaming from the app to my Google Chromecast & it’s working fine, so must be an Apple TV problem?

Out of interest, Big Wheel, what iOS playback restrictions does the £4.99 payment lift?

playback from a Plex Media Server that you would have installed on your computer or if a friend shared their server from you. ( it has a one minute time limit otherwise)

It does not affect our streaming stuff with commercials. Unfortunately we have no access to the Apple app store to issue refunds so you would need to contact Apple for that.
