I’ve using Plex on AppleTV and all my content is stored on an old iMac running on Lion.
I know Plex made changes that a few months that made my iMac an outdated server but I was aware until I uninstalled the tvOS app recently will trying to fix a separate issue. I haven’t got the hard rive space on my newer MacBook to hold my Plex library but I was then able to stream the Plex library from my iPhone 4 to AppleTV with Airplay.
However, a few days ago my iPhone stopped being able to Plex content. Every video, regardless of format gives this message - The operation could not be completed An unknown error occurred ( -12880 ).
I have tried restarting the browsers and apps on the iMac and iPhone and restarting the devices themselves.
Is this error connected to the reason why the iMac doesn’t work with AppleTV anymore?
Thank you for responding. However, you seem to have misunderstood or misread my post.
I was not criticising Plex for the updates, nor did I claim there was no advance warning and I did say that I knew why Plex tvOS app was no longer connecting to the iMac. So there was no need to quote evidence.
I was just asking if my new problem wth iOS app was the for the same reason. I was not sure because the iPhone was able to play videos just fine until a couple of days ago and there were no changes/updates on my end. And I was asking if there was a solution to using Plex on older devices because as I said my new MacBook hasn’t got the storage space.
If there is no way to get Plex working again, can anyone offer me alternatives that would allow me to stream my Plex library from a iMac with Lion to an AppleTV 4 or iPhone 4? I tried VLC before I couldn’t make head nor tail of it but it is wha led me to Plex.
Or is it against the rules to discussion other software?
But when you said the following - you did not say what version of the app you were using to play plex content - which I assumed was Plex for iOS and you did not say which Plex content
If you are using current version of Plex for iOS app and playing back video from a supported version of Plex Media Server then please get some diagnostics (logs from Plex for iOS and Plex Media Server) together with indication of what was being played and when
