I just bought an HDHomeRun Duo for the purposes of shifting the Olympics via my Linux-based Plex server. I set it to record everything, and now have missed most of the opening ceremonies.
As far as I can tell, the local channel aired the ceremonies twice, at 5pm and 8pm. The recording started at 5, but then inexplicably stopped 62 minutes later (is the 2 from the 1 minute before/after setting?). It was not re-recorded again at 8, and by the time we sat down at 9:30 and then realized it failed, we were screwed. I have it set to record “all airings” so I don’t know why it didn’t even try to record the second airing…
I’ve attached a zip of all the logs on the server as of 10pm, as I’m not sure what to look for to figure out what happened. The nearest I can follow is that it started recording at the right time, and set a timer for the appropriate number of seconds (approx 10,000) later, then the next log shows it stopping “on command” far too early.
It looks like NBC is re-broadcasting the ceremonies at 1am Saturday night (just over 2 hours from now) but the program guide doesn’t show it anywhere, and there doesn’t appear to be any provision for manually forcing a recording. So, not really a good start to Plex DVR. Wondering if the Plex Pass was really worth it at this point. ;-(
Is there something going on here I can do anything to correct?
I’m having this same exact issue on a sporadic basis - Lets hope the logs show something that can help them figure this out.
As for not recording the second airing: I ran into this as well with a PBS series I was trying to record. What I think/believe happens is this:
Your first airing stopped due the whatever this issue is… BUT!
It still looks like a “good” recording to Plex SO…
Plex decided that there was no need to try and record the second airing - because it “thought” that it already had it recorded.
(My theory based on personal observation here at my place.)
NOTE: When I saw this I could not even get the second airing to show up as scheduled until I deleted the first failed/partial recording and rescanned the library…
Here’s hoping they find the smoking gun for this issue in your logs.
While attempting to prepare a recording for the 1am replay (which failed because of permissions on the folders plex creates…), I discovered that the HDHomeRun wasn’t getting any signal on 8.1, even with a perfectly usable signal for my TV, and has plenty of signal for 6.1. It appears that the antenna I have (9x12" amplified patch) doesn’t actually want to be pointed at the tower, but instead quite a bit north and above it. Not realizing that the ceremonies were being broadcast at 5pm and 8pm, I adjusted the antenna from what I assumed was an incorrect position to actually point at the tower at approximately 6pm, which coincides with the end of the recording.
Having read in many places that NBC coverage didn’t start until 8pm, I was surprised to find that it started here at 5pm. As I discovered this today, I went to check to see if Plex was recording, and it turns out it hasn’t done anything at all. The Program Guide and the Recording Schedule disagree at a fundamental level, and even for what they show Plex is not recording them.
Compounding all this mess is that I can’t do anything to manually rectify these problems.
At this point I’ve hooked the TV back up and given up entirely on Plex Pass and the HDHomeRun. That’s $150+ that I’d love to get back at this point.
