I downloaded the server. I opened the server. It takes me to what looks like regular plex. not a server. It never prompted me to set up my server. When I click +Your Media, it prompts me to download Plex Media Server, which is what I open to get to this page. It’s a circle of frustration. I did skip picking what services I like (A&E and Comedy Central etc.) Was that the setup wizard? If so, how do I get back to it? I’m profoundly frustrated and despite being fairly tech-savvy and setting plex up once years ago with no issue, I feel like I must be missing something straightforward. Can anyone help me?
Opening the Plex Media Server applications just goes to regular plex. Never prompted to set up serve
I am having exactly the same problem but with Linux Mint (Ubuntu)!!
In order to complete the setup you need to open your Plex Media Server through its local IP.
If you’re on the same machine… open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in your browser. If you’re on a different machine inside your home network, use http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web instead. This will bring up a wizard/dialog where you can name your server and link it to your Plex account (as well as creating your first libraries).
Once you “claimed” your server (=linked it to your Plex Media Account), you’ll also be able to access it from other Plex apps or via http://app.plex.tv/desktop.
I am having the exact same problem I cannot claim the server using http//127.0.0.1:32400/web says something went wrong manually install Plex media server, and then it never opens. (windows 10 65 Bit) Could you please help me ?
I am having exactly the same issue. I was using Plex a year ago with no problems to stream videos from my desktop to a fire stick. I have installed the latest Plex app and the media server apps to my windows 11 desktop. The desktop is the intended server where the files are. When I log in and click on the ‘Your Media’ option it prompts me to ‘Get Plex Media Server’ Which is already installed. It looks like the response from tom80H relates to Ubuntu, my issue is the same as the initial poster, whereby the plex tv app doesn’t seem to recognize the media server is already installed on windows. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, but I just can’t get past the screen the which continues to prompt me to download the server app.
