Cant install Media Server

Server Version#:1.21.3.4014-58bd20c02
Player Version#:4.51.1?

OK, so I downloaded Plex.m I am now trying to add my own content. I go to the +Your Media link and it says get Plex media Server. I donload and install this. It now opens up another window whch looks exactly like the first window. I press + Your media. It twlls me to download Media Server. I have done this! I am going around in circles. I have watched the video on installation but t never asks me for my media location or the name of my media server. What is wrong?

In order to complete the setup you need to open your Plex Media Server through its local IP.
If you’re on the same Mac… open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in your browser. If you’re on a different machine inside your home network, use http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web instead. This will bring up a wizard/dialog where you can name your server and link it to your Plex account (as well as creating your first libraries).

Once you “claimed” your server (=linked it to your Plex Media Account), you’ll also be able to access it from other Plex apps or via http://app.plex.tv/desktop. Given your description I suppose you were opening that last URL.

I am having the very same issue. But when I use the link you provided above it just loops me back into plex and does not give me a prompt to claim the server.

If you’re connected locally and still get this issue… did you already setup this server as a different user (either Windows or Plex user)? In that case the Server might already be claimed and simply not letting you in.

Otherwise… if you already went through the dialog or skipped it… can you access the server settings to manually name and claim the server?

No this did not work. It simply never gave me the setup options. I installed on a different Mac and it worked fine. No idea why the first one didn’t.

How do I uninstall from the first one?

Option 1: Reset the server/account association:

see the „why am I locked out“ support article above

Option 2: Full uninstall

Ok, so I setup my server on a friend’s account for a few weeks because I was having issues with my computer. That was months ago. Now he is trying to setup his own server, but it won’t let him claim the server as his. I remove the old server that keeps activating on my account, but it keeps opening on my account. How do we get rid of that server so he can claim his server on his plex account?

I have still not got plex working. I have just about given up with this. I can get the player installed but all I want to do is play my own content on my local network. I do not want any of the Plex streamed content, just my movies. I start Plex up and it cannot find a server and I have no option to add content.

How do I remove plex? This is just a waste of resources on my machine.

Mind sharing what you changed / did since last week?

If you’re looking for an option to remove the online media sources…

  1. Open https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/online-media-sources in your browser
  2. Set the various sources to Disabled and click Save Changes

I have uninstalled and reinstalled. I still get that ridiculous No Soup message. tghis is my server, why on earth will it not let me log in??? This is quite the most frustrating piece of software I have used.

This keeps happening even when you try to open the Plex Media Server locally?

If it does… could it be you have signed into a previous install of the Plex Media Server on this machine, using a different Plex account?

As listed under the uninstall instructions… if the “why am I locked out” procedure doesn’t work for you… can you manually delete the following folders while the Plex Media Server is not running?

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/
  • ~/Library/Caches/PlexMediaServer/
  • ~/Library/Logs/Plex Media Server/
