The file has 50 tracks. That causes problems for some clients.

Try remuxing the file, using MKVToolNix or similar tools, removing the unneeded audio and subtitle tracks.

What?! Where do you see 50 tracks? There’s just one video track and 17 audio tracks. Subtitles are barely tracks. Even if we do count them as tracks, I have files with more and they play fine

In the information you posted.

Then something might be wrong with the file - poorly encoded or damaged in some other way.

It could be bad enough that Plex cannot play it, but other video players might.

Try remuxing the file, removing unnecessary tracks.

If Plex still cannot play it, then try acquiring it from another source.

I hope you do realize how absurd your suggestion is. You’re telling me to go and fix all such files instead of Plex just fixing the player. Not only it cannot play the file, but it completely crashes without any errors. At least it could show some error, but Plex being Plex - it’s been almost 10 years since I use it and they still can’t properly implement Play-Pause functionality, so no, it’s not a users fault

There are files that play fine in VLC, Kodi, etc., that give Plex trouble. You might have one of those.

I’m suggesting you take 10 minutes to remux the file and see if it helps.

If you have a file with 50 tracks, the Plex client will have to discard 47 or 48 of them as it receives the file (if it is direct playing).

Maybe try not sending the unnecessary tracks in the first place?

The other thing you could try is forcing a transcode. That will force Plex Media Server to remux the file and send only two (video + audio) or three (+ subtitles) tracks to the client

I never said this specific one doesn’t play. I said such as this doesn’t play. I have a bunch of similar files and all of them just crash the app. I don’t even get a chance to switch to transcoding - app crashes. I don’t remember if there’s a way to switch this before starting to play.

I’m pretty sure manually remuxing the files would help, but that’s not an option - I need the tracks and player just can’t handle

I get it, you try to play files that are fine everywhere else except Plex. Why is it happening? It probably shouldn’t crash.

But… do you really need 17 different audio tracks and 32 subtitles? That’s a pretty extreme file. It doesn’t surprise me some players might have difficulty handling it in some context.

I just checked and the file in question plays fine on Plex Server web app (the one that opens from Server icon in SysTray).

Also these two files with tens of tracks play fine on the same Android TV app where the above one crashes

Aparently Plex on 10 year old LG WebOS (sorry, didn’t have a chance to check all versions) plays these viedos just fine. So it’s an Android Plex issue
