Last night loaded up openpht 1.9.0 on my first ever odroid - Openpht loads nicely and 4k playback with all audio formats passthrough working.

I do, however, notice that the picture quality is a bit off, colors are washed out with a slight greenish tint. blacks are more greyish that PMP on my NUC:

I tried fiddling around in settings but I can’t fint any setting that lets me change color space or something like that…

Anyone else notice this or maybe someone can point me in the right direction?

Keep in mind the ODroid C2 doesn’t support HDR output. Since most 4K stuff is HDR it will look washed out when played through the C2. There is no way to correct it.

Try watching non-4K stuff on your C2 and see if you notice a difference. I’ve got 1.9.0 running on one of my C2’s (the other is running Plex for Kodi as a test) and the colors are fine on non-HDR content.

I see. did not know that… but well. as long as it can passthrough atmos and DTS:X its better than my old NUC…
All i need 4k content for is the atmos and DTS:X tracks.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Yeah from what I can gather the entire HDR situation with Plex/Kodi is messed up right now. There’s no supported standard working across the board that I can find. I believe Google’s Chromecast HD properly outputs HDR but you need the Ethernet attachment to get reliable 4k streaming since wireless struggles with bandwidth.

Sooner or later a “standard” HDR setup will emerge and new versions of RPi’s, ODroid’s, etc. will come out that support it. I think ODroid’s got a new device they’re testing now that is significantly more powerful than the C2 but I can’t find out if it definitely has HDR output support or not. Here’s a link to their forum on it: The Next ODROID! - ODROID

Of course all this is moot for me because I don’t have any HDR-capable TV’s (yet). I’m waiting for either HDR10 or Dolby Vision to settle in as a standard before committing to a 4K set with HDR bigger than the 74" set I have now…at a reasonable price! My PJ is not 4k anyway - i just wanted to take advantage of the atmos and dts:x which my old nuc could not passthrough.
4k is nice, but expensive.

iam a little confused about the 1.9 release.
1.8 comes from Kwiboo https://github.com/RasPlex/OpenPHT/releases
and 1.9 from Veisen https://github.com/Veisen/OpenPHT/releases

And Veisen says “Thanks to Kwiboo https://github.com/Kwiboo for new OpenPHT 1.9”

Who is now responsible for this project? especially for upcoming updates. does the updates comes through the openpht gui as it was until 1.7?

i installed the 1.9 image on my sd for my odroid c2 and recover my backup. everything work as previously, but I want to know what happens in the future. I would like to stay on solid release with auto updates without hassle by remove my sd card and clone and recover and so on…

however, thanks for the release and your work on this. Kwiboo and Veisen!

As stated above, I installed the 1.9 on my ODroid C2 and it works. However the audio sync issue is still present. A/V sync drifts and cannot be corrected using offset because the drift isn’t constant. The problem seems worse on HEVC/H.265 streams. I almost never notice it on H.264 streams. Pausing (not stopping) an HEVC stream almost always causes immediate drift upon resuming. This has been an issue for almost a year now.

I upgraded one of my C2’s to Plex for Kodi which is based on a much newer version of LibreELEC and the audio drift issue is fixed. There was talk last year about OpenPHT 2.x being in development to fix the A/V sync issue but then development seemed to stop.

You can install 1.9 for x86/x64 from here: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/221502/ubuntu-script-to-install-openpht

Just installed on ubuntu 16.04, all i did was run that script but had to change /opt/openpht/bin/plexhometheater to /opt/openpht/bin/openpht in ~/plexhometheater.sh

1st thx for the reply :frowning:
2nd I’ve run 1.9 for a moth and run in to different issues on my odroid c2. wifi connection errors and playback issues.

finaly 1.9 is crap. no improvements. no visual upgrades just problems and and I don’t know at all why to update.
im now on 1.8 for a few days and everything works again. why releasing 1.9 without changelog and as it seems without testing?

iam very angry at the end. lost many hours on trying fixing things

Has anyone gotten beyond the splash screen on an S912? I actually bought a S912 box when I saw Viesens 1.9 supported S912 embedded and now I see it doesnt actually work. Such a let down. Does anyone have a workaround? LE works fine but I really dont like the interface for the Kodi Plex plugin. OpenPHT is so clean and fast in comparison. I have 1.9 working fine on my Wetek Hub but unfortunately it has a S905H SOC so no HDR and I just got a new 4K HDR tv  1st world problem eh?

I’ve been looking for an OpenPHT client for what seems like years now.

I just want a cheapish small black box that plays everything (within reason) without issue, but so far this seems elusive.

Is there such a device? Or is it still a case of having to build a mini PC? I currently use a HP MIcroserver with a video card, it plays everything fine but I hate Windows OS and the size of the Microserver. Just want a small low-power always on slick OpenPHT client that play x265 and the Atmos DTS:X.

I tried installing OpenPHT 1.8 on the Microserver but the drivers weren’t right, so went back to the hateful Windows OS.

Do the WeTek devices work well with OpenPHT ?

How have you missed the many references to the Odroid C2? It’s like a Raspberry Pi but 2-10x faster. This is the best hardware for OpenPHT. Plays everything including 4K but not HDR (a limitation of OpenPHT not the Odroid). Some assembly is necessary e.g. put the board in a case but you can purchase complete kits.

Hi nigelpb,

I certainly have read with great interest about the Odroid C2, I certainly like the price and I have actually used the raspberry pi v2 so putting one together wouldn’t be a problem for me.

However, whenever I read about this unit there always seems to be some issues. The thread above talks about an ongoing issue with audio lag. I seem to remember there is another issue with a certain video codec but I can’t remember off the top my head.

Having spent years with various media players like the popcorn hour and different media centers etc. etc. now I just want to simple one box solution that just works.

Maybe the Odroid C2 is it. I presume you use them?

Do you have any issues at all with the unit?

The Odroid C2 was my preferred client until I recently got an Apple TV 4K (which I mostly use with MrMC with Plex for Kodi add-on as my Plex client). I never had a single problem with it & it played everything I threw at it. Even if there were an issue with audio lag there are controls to adjust audio synch (unlike the official Plex client).

Does the Apple TV 4k /MrMC with Plex cripple anything?

Do you still get Atmos/DTSX bitstreaming etc?

The C2 is not the best OpenPHT embedded box, that would be any S905X box, similar to the C2 but with the added HDR.

Brimur,

Can you recommend an S905x box?

There are loads on amazon ranging from around 30 - 70 pounds.

Just tried a fresh install on my odroid C2…I’m still getting the VC1 stutter on muxed BluRays. Can anyone else conform if they have that issue?

Yes it’s still there in OpenPHT but fixed in the actual Libreelec 8.2.5 and Plex-for-Kodi Plugin.

Any of them should do I think. Some have issues with passthrough audio but if you are happy with the box doing the audio decoding and have a surround sound audio setup then you will still be happy.

C2 is an S905 not an S905X box

I just tried the S905 version on the LePotato but it won’t boot. Any ideas? If I need to do a custom build I can set it up on my machine, just wanted to know if it’s even supported (LePotato, see AML-S905X-CC (Le Potato) – Libre Computer ).

Thanks for your hard work, off to use an RPi3 for now
