OpenPHT for Odroid C2 - Information and Tips

Any news on the eMMC card support?

This is running really well on my odroid c2. Congratulations to the developers! I am also wondering about eMMC support, since the interface is not really fluid and I am wondering if with eMMC would be any better.

Got my C2 setup running OpenPHT last night and it works amazing well! Its played all of my 4k samples without issues and is so much faster in the menus than the Pi was.

I will hopefully get it hooked back up to my LED strip and have a go at getting Hyperion going over the weekend and will post my results.

Excellent work guys!
@joshdinsdale Did you get Hyperion working? I think read it doesn’t work. Because I consider buying an Odroid C2 once PMP supports it.

I documented it here. I’ve ended up having to turn it off at the moment though as the WS2801 LEDs dont work reliably with the ODROID. This is due to the way the SPI bus works on the ODROID (essentially its a bit crap!). It grabs the frame buffer and does work, however the leds will randomly flicker on and off in different colour patterns, its incredible distracting when trying to watch a film or show!

The answer is to use LED’s that aren’t so fussed about timings, so I’m probably going to an APA102 based LED strip when i get back from holiday in a couple of weeks.

Was just thinking, @NedtheNerd would you mind stickying my Hyperion post? I know there’s probably not many people using it with the ODROID, but it might save a few people some time.

I have APA102, but no Odroid to test with. But I kinda doubt the C2 will handle 216 LEDs
I’ll probably buy one once PMP officially supports the Odroid C2. I mean you can still just connect an arduino, right?

With movies the audio is not in sync, series are oke but movies not…
Is this an known issue and if yes how to resolve this?

I installed OpenPHT for Odroid and love it. But there are two bugs (?) I’m experiencing:

  1. Display switching doesn’t work properly all the times. Often display just stays black. I then have to go back to the menu and restart the video. Often it works in the second try but sometimes it takes several tries until it works fine.
  2. VC1 videos stutter every few seconds (hard stutter).

Are these bugs know already?

Hi all,
I am trying to play a 4k video with AAC stereo sound.
I merged those files with ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -i audio.mp4 -c:v copy -c:a copy output.mp4
The video is 60 f/s and played as 25 f/s (maybe due to TV limitation).
both video and audio play well separately.
after merge the video is fluide but the audio cuts a lot.
any idea ?
Thanks a lot for help.

Spent my first night with the OdroidC2 and OpenPHT/Rasplex last night. How fantastic. I haven’t watched more than about 5 minutes of High-Bitrate and DTS-MA content, but did a lot of Dolby Digital. Everything is super smooth; I’d venture better than my Win10 HTPC w/ older celeron. I need to get a remote working yet (still a bit intimidating for a linux newb like me), but my wireless keyboard is holding me over.

Thank you so much for a truly full-featured, inexpensive, power-sipping Plex Appliance. When PHT was abandoned, you all stepped up and preserved the things we loved about Plex in the Home Theater. Odroid/OpenPHT + Roku/Chromecast is my new recommendation for the best HT experience you can get for under $200.

Donation is on the way. Please keep up the good work.

When is EAC 5.1 audio support coming to OpenPHT?

Sorry for intruding, having a hard time getting into SSH. Hoping someone could help me out.

Sounds really great. Does the ODroid C2 support 23.976?

Yes. It supports 23.976 FPS / 24hz.

This eliminates the need for beefy plex servers because you basically don’t have to transcode with the ODROID C2. I have an XU4 as my server and just got the C2 and am ecstatic about how well the setup works. Call me crazy, but lossy-to-lossy transcoding especially seems so outmoded when I can have a client that plays just about everything and can be had for under $100. Until transcoding is cheap, I am going to use a setup like this forever.

After some time with the Odroid, I gotta say I’m pretty happy with it. Although I would like to know what everybody else thinks about picture quality.

When there is fast horizontal movement, I can see rendering issues around text and in general some pixelation when there is high contrast lines. Anyone else seeing this or its just me?

The Webapp and OpenPHT in my Mac does not appear to have this problem.

I guess I can’t properly delete posts so I’ll just do this.

It looks like multichannel LPCM and hifi shield support has made it into LibreELEC 7.1.0!

I can’t find where the required patches have been posted to though…

I didn’t realize Hi10p wasn’t properly playable. I tried it in Kodi and it’s messed up in the exact same way. That kind of sucks. It plays, but there’s a lot of macroblocking. I’m reading that this can’t be fixed because the C2 has no hardware decoding for this? I find that difficult to understand, the content plays at full speed and looks 80% fine, just has some weird artifacts that make it subotpimal, there’s no way around that?

The weird thing is I see no such artifacts using Kodi on my OnePlus One, I just don’t get full-speed playback it seems. Are the platforms really that different?

Thinking about buying a Odroid C2, is it stable? is there a review to read somewhere?
