OpenPHT now available for SteamOS Brewmaster

OpenPHT has been synced to brewmaster_testing dist for testing. Once you enable the testing repo, you can install it, or grab the deb from the links in the wiki page. I advise installing the deb with gdebi if you choose that route. Getting to this point was quite a struggle (being a novice to packaging myself), but the application seems to launch to the setup screen. Further testing is needed. This has been built against the OpenPHT GitHub repository.

Update: basic build up at packages.libregeek.org. See the blow reddit post:

See https://github.com/norbusan/plex-home-theater-public branch debian, this is what I use to build PHT builds for jessie and sid, both on i386 and amd64.

But I haven’t tried rebuilding since long, since there is no new release.

OpenPHT is community-driven continued development. Definitely check it out. It is from the folks who run RasPlex. Besides the above Reddit post, see the wiki page I stood up for my repo below.

A few bugs, but a great start for a first build.

Your cec patches also helped greatly get an actual build. In my builds I did have to correct the library path to get things to completion.

@ProfessorKaos64 As I said in the Steam forums, thanks for putting together that guide for getting OpenPHT installed. It’s working very well except for that known audio issue preventing surround sound. I have one question, after the Steam Controller goes to sleep and turns itself off, when I turn it back on OpenPHT does not respond to the controller anymore. I have to use the Steam overlay to force quit Plex in order to get functionality back. Were you aware of this issue and/or do you know of a solution besides just preventing the controller from turning off?

I’d like to help with OpenPHT’s development by giving any feedback of problems I encounter, but I’m not sure if I should just post them in this thread (for SteamOS) or elsewhere. Here are my known problems:

  • Cannot select the correct audio output for surround sound
  • Does not recognize the Steam Controller after the controller falls asleep (happens during playback)
  • Fast-forward trigger button does not seem to work at all, and the rewind button is very finicky. On the Steam Controller Rewind does not seem to behave the way an Xbox 360 controller behaves using PHT on Windows (where the more you pull the trigger the faster the rewind).

@zero_koop:
I think all issues related to usage and features specific to SteamOS need to be addressed in threads specific to the SteamOS releases/builds.

The Steam controller is not normally used as the main GUI input device in any other environment than SteamOS, and I suspect that its audio output selection methods may also differ (internally) from what’s used in other OpenPHT releases.

At present the main OpenPHT team (== RasPlex team) is focusing on Windows, OSX and the RPi OpenELEC systems, and I think that’s close to the limit of what the current team can support well.So third-party builds for other systems need to be supported by those making them, at least with regard to everything unique to those systems.
