I would like to request the Plex server and webclient software to be opensourced together with the publication of a Roadmap. My main reason is out of personal frustration. Certain feature requests are high ranked here, without any comment from a developer or plex community manager regarding the status or where on the roadmap the feature is currently placed. I’ve searched for a roadmap, but haven’t found one as of yet. Especially for the Features requested in the Plex Pass Section, i would have expected a roadmap.
So to throw it on a new pace, let’s opensource it. For me Plex is an awesome tool that i have available for me and my family on my homeserver. However, in my opinion there are certain features lacking (with some of them i had to hack them in) that are quite fundamental for a Media Server as Plex tries to place itself in (One example Picture metadata). I don’t mind working on those features, and offer pull request. But honestly, it frustrates me deeply that certain features are unfinished and there is no communication on when it will be completed.

Voted LOL. Not happening, unfortunately.
Maybe, maybe not… If it is never requested, it will never happen.
For me it feels like not being taken seriously as a customer of Plex Inc. Voting for Features doesn’t have any impact and it’s unclear what the development team is putting it’s focus on.
But we got Plex News! We got automatic picture tagging! (but no manual tagging) . To prevent the discussion “If you think you can do better, show it”, just give me the ability

Oh, it’s been requested alright. Communication has been bad to worse since I joined in 2013. Emby or Kodi are better bets to get what you want.

I wasn’t aware of that. Probably didn’t look good enough.
Emby i didn’t know of, probably should take a look into that, thanks.
I got lifetime so i guess i ended up with all others in the “Got Lifetime, Don’t Care” bin. Stupid Stupid decision to buy lifetime…
You have openPHT/Rasplex which works quite well, but haven’t been updated to support HDR yet. Another road, which I’m exploring, is using Plex to manage my media and KODI w/Plex addon as player.

I got lifetime too, but over three years ago… so paying yearly or monthly would have been more expensive anyway. I’m mostly still here because Emby’s AndroidTV has major refresh rate switching issues for me, and I don’t really have the money to buy Premiere right now for mobile sync… otherwise, they have a very interesting offering.
