It would be great to be able to schedule te creation of optimzed versions, both the time that these activity run or based on some conditions, such as CPU state or just time based in dark (and work) hours.
along the same lines, be great to have an option to auto create optimized versions based on set rules, last 10, tv shows etc, any tv shows on deck.
can have an impact on playing media if server is already transcoding on the fly.

Prioritize streaming transcodes
This option lets you choose how to handle background transcoding tasks. “Background transcoding” would be transcode jobs for Mobile Sync, Cloud Sync, or Media Optimizer. So, when you have someone actively streaming and the stream requires transcoding, you can choose to have the background transcoding tasks paused by choosing to prioritize the streaming transcodes.
For low-powered systems (such as many NAS devices), pausing background transcoding tasks is recommended so as to not overburden the CPU.
Tip!: Background transcoding tasks are run as a lower priority process by default so that they'll have less of an impact on normal usage, but they can still affect things on low-powered systems.
And you can already create Optimized Jobs based on On Deck, Recently Added (last X items), and so on
thanks for quick response, I must have ben having another issue then. as for the “jobs” will this automatically make sure i always have the last 10 movies optimized if i have created that job today?
Go into your Movie Library, sort it by Date Added and then selected Optimize. When the dialog box comes up set the limit to 10.
After it is done creating the job, any new film added will replace the oldest in the set automatically
