Hi, i have various devices which i use to watch films. To avoid transcoding i would like to store optimized versions for iPad and iPhone. When i try to create a optimized version it fails all the time. Can i create optimized version by my self?
How are the naming conventions?
I would like to have from a film 2 versions, one with 19201080 resolution and another version with 1280720. Both have the extension .mp4. The only difference is the resolution, because 19201080 works on my tv’s, while 1280*720 works on my iPad and AppleTV.
While definitely not the ideal way, you could simply name your movie files the same and then add additional information in brackets after the year.
For Example:
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (2008) [1080p].mp4
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (2008) [1080p Optimized].mp4
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (2008) [720p Optimized].mp4
With that the server should automatically combine the 3 files into 1 movie entry with blue circle in the corner with the number of movies in the entry (in this case a blue circle with a 3).
Now some apps will prompt you to select a version when you hit play, other apps if they have specific requirements should be trying to use a file that will direct play over others that would require transcoding.
