Can you please turn on DEBUG logging, try again, then attach the server debug logs ZIP file (Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs)

What you provided isn’t sufficient to diagnose. sorry.

ah i turned on the wrong debug. thanks checked the box this time.

error around 23:19 - [139962970176312]

You have several things going on here.

  1. Plex doesn’t play DVD “VOB” files. Those are encrypted.

  1. It looks like you’re trying to play HEVC on your i5 CPU. The i5-6xxx CPU ( named “SkyLake” ) does not support HEVC HDR. It’s one generation before HDR. You would need an i5-7xxx (“KabyLake”) cpu or better for HEVC HDR

  2. I can’t tell if this is because of other activity (attempting to software transcode HEVC - which is CPU painful) or the DB is very fragmented.

For 1. that an old file that I probably should get rid of. I’m guessing probably fixed by using a converter to convert it to another file type.

For #2 probably the issue then with my metadata files that i originally asked about. Is there a codec of software that can be uploaded to resolve or does it require an newer CPU as I just upgraded the nuc server a few months ago and got this i5 not looking at the version. Not aware of this limitation with the CPU.

For #3 is there a way to un-fragment the db without rebuilding the whole plex? I remember seeing someone post about db that was fragmented but wasn’t sure if there was a fix besides that.

The i5 SkyLake is, IIRC, pin-for-pin replaceable with it’s HDR sibling.
It’s something you can look forward to
-or-
If you have a Nvidia GPU card, which is on their transcoding list, you can use instead of the built-in GPU on the i5. ( a lot of folks opt for this method to extend the life of their CPUs )

  1. Optimizing the DB
    – Open Plex/web
    – Hover over the server name to expose the ellipsis (vertical)
    – Manage Server
    – Optimize Database
