I’m the type of user who knows exactly what I want to access in Plex. I discover content through other means and add it as I go, so it just gets in the way when Plex offers new content suggestions. I wish there was a checkbox to disable that functionality throughout the system, whether in podcasts or through things like today’s addition of Tidal.
The suggestions are especially intrusive with the podcast feature. Really podcasts are working well now, but a huge part of the interface is taken up suggesting new podcasts instead of improving access to the ones I’ve already added and actually want to play.
Podcast discovery even intrudes into search, which is annoying enough on its own but becomes twice as bad when Android Auto voice commands are involved. Asking for a song by name can load up an episode from a podcast the user’s never even heard of before, using data in the process.
And finally, the example that made me finally sit down and write this suggestion was today’s addition of Tidal. Again related to Android Auto, it seems that with Plex automatically adding Tidal, my entire music collection was made inaccessible to Android Auto.
I appreciate that Plex is adding functionality that will be valuable to other users, but for users like me there’s this whole category of feature that only gets in the way, and it seems like we should just be able to opt out.
