I have 5 sections in totally in plex (movies 1, movies 2, tv shows, tv shows 2 and music). I have quiet a large amount of media and so dont have all movies together and likewise for tv shows. Movies 2 and tv shows 2 sections never change as they contain old files. My issue is that plex still has to scan them. Its taking plex about 5 hrs! to scan my library and spending half of that time scanning sections that havent and will not change. I have network drives setup through a program called drivebender and the "run a partial scan when changes are detected" option does not work with them. I know you can manually update library sections but i would like to have this happen automatically as i'm not going to be always around to update the libraries for family members. This is something xbmc already does and am surprised not to see it in plex.
putting .plexignore file (with the dot) on your library root folder may be a solution for you. Use * alone instead of *trailers* in the sample shown here:

unforunately that doesnt stop it scanning the library sections but thanks anyways
What we need is setting different interval for each Library Section with option to select None ie Manual Scans for that section
Furthermore if a change happens to one Library Section or if i force a manual scan for one section, it must not go through scanning all sections !
Also at the moment a network glitch affecting access to network shares holding the media results in a full scan of everything. Not necessary.
