Option to remove "Recommended" tab in players

Request is to optionally remove the “Recommended” tab/ selection on players.

As I have built my own libraries of Movies, TV shows, documentaries and pretty much all the moving visual media I like, I am quite familiar with (my own) library.

For this reason, I do not need a “Recommended” tab in my library as I can by heart recommend things to myself (and anyone in the house) without the benefit of a presumably very well coded Recommended tab.

Can you please, please, like really pretty please, add an option to turn this off?
Yes, I know that in theory, you should only click on “Library” once, and the player (be it Apple TV, iPad etc.) will remember this setting, but it does not. Whenever the app has to be relaunched, it is back to its usual self, and there is no need for that.

I get that the new interfaces in iPad, Apple TV and web player are more aligned in the interface than they were before, totally agree, good idea, more streamlined, more better, more cool, but just…why is there a “Recommended” tab? Its my own Library, I know what is good in there!

If the ‘Remember selected tab’ setting is enabled, but Plex isn’t remembering, it seems to me that the solution is to find out why the setting isn’t working, rather than adding a new feature to work around the problem.

The setting is very reliable in my experience on Plex Web, Roku, and Android TV, so maybe Plex needs to look into why it isn’t working in your case.

A browser cookie is absolutely not the way to solve this because of the erratic behavior of different browsers. This recommended tab has been nothing but frustrating for me to have to explain to every user I add that it should be ignored to be able to find the whole library. There is no reason that as a server admin I can’t turn off this feature for my users.

+1 to this request.

I want the ability to remove/disable/hide the Recommended tab. It serves no purpose to me or to my family. It creates more confusion, especially to the less tech-savvy.

Please do not tell me I can “select Library and Plex will remember what I chose.” I want to choose never to see “Recommended” if that’s what I want, and I do not want to be interrupted by it just because it’s the first time I’ve clicked on a particular category. To be clear, I do not want it to be the default. More to the point: I want the ability to remove it so that my family never sees it in the web interface, in the Roku app, in the iOS app, etc.

Thank you!
Brian

Adding my vote/request for the following:

  1. The ability to set at the server level the global default library view mode; specifically, please provide a server-side control for setting the global default library view to Library rather than to Recommended.

  2. Make the default library view mode Library instead of Recommended; that is, even if the Plex developers choose not to expose a server-side control, as requested above, please make the default library view mode Library.

As many others here have stated, the current default Recommended library view is, at best, not very useful, and at worst, confusing and/or annoying to end-users. IMHO, Library is a far more useful default view setting.

Thanks for listening.

I don’t have any votes left but yes to removing the Recommended tab completely everywhere.

But Plex must conduct some sort of focus group testing, was there anyone who ever liked this?

+1 The recommended tab also seems to ignore content restrictions using labels. A video that is restricted from a user can still show up on their recommended tab.

I agree, the recommended tab is completely unnecessary. On streaming services I understand, their libraries change and they might have something new that matches what I’ve already enjoy. Plex isn’t a streaming service. I put my library here, I configure it, I keep it updated, I know what I have. I don’t need you to “recommend” anything to me, because I’m the one telling you what I already have. The “Remember last tab” selection is a poor solution to a problem that shouldn’t exist. Just let us completely remove this tab.

Coming straight from Plex Home Theater (which just stopped working the other day), I really liked how it solved having both recommendations (well, “on deck” and “recently added”) and a library:

Just arrowing to a section (e.g. “TV series”) would show “on deck” and “recently added”. Clicking Enter (or equivalent) would go into that section, showing the library list.

So you can get to the library with essentially no friction, or you can resume a recently played or added show with essentially no friction. No having to (relatively) laboriously switch tabs and worry about which tab is the preselected one. They’re always in the “same place” (the shown-on-focus menu and the shown-on-enter menu, respectively).

To me, this seems a better UI, and it seems like it’d cut through several of the issues discussed above, but I realise there are surely design constraints I’m not thinking about.

Not Nice since I share with a friend whose Kids use My Plex… And there Are porn stuff on it :frowning:

This may have actually been fixed since I noticed it (I just retested it). You might want to check by making another account to test with I don’t know that i would trust it in your situation though.

Doesn’t that tab only recommend stuff from the same library?

trekant, if you keep the Porn Titles in there own Library, you can choice not to share that Library with your friend

+1 to remove the “Recommended” tab. It is clear that this “feature” is a BIG FAIL!

+1. Recommend has zero use for me and only gets in the way.

+1 for the request… I went to plex because I want to watch MY COLLECTION of media and stream MY Library to MY devices in the house.

I hate the Firestick Ui, I Hate the Roku Ui … Basically hate them all! But now Plex is following suit for features I am really not interested in at all. Great for those who like them, but for This of us that dont, give us the ability to turn them off or only active if we have an interest. This is why I went to Plex I could customize what library’s I want to see without all the recommended nonsense ! This frustration now has me really starting to regret my plex pass purchase.
