Organizing Concert & Music Programs

I have a bunch of recordings of concerts from DVDs and BluRays, which while they are appearing currently under Movies, (and a few under TV Shows)… I would like to separate these out to a separate section/library.

Would I be able to create a new section or library to put these programs in (and move the content into this)?

If so, how can I do this?

I see when I go to Add Library it asks for a type: Movies, TV Shows, Music, Photos, or Other Videos.

Which one should I select?

I have quite a few downloaded concerts as well. I use windows 11 and a dedicated drive for Plex. For the Concert Video section I choose Other Video and then I select local for the meta information. I like to set up the files by the band name and then date of the show. That way all of the bands shows are in a separate directory and the shows are by date.

I do the same with music but I let Plex find the meta data for the music albums.

For music files the format would be:
D:Music\Band name\albums
for example:
D:\Music\AC-DC\Back In Black
D:\Music\AC-DC\Let There Be Rock
D:Music\Aerosmith\Toys In The Attic

For concert Videos:

D:\Concert Videos\Band\Date and Show and Location (any special info)
For example:

D:\Concert Video\Grateful Dead\1976-08-04 Roosevelt Stadium NJ (full show)
D:\Concert Video\Rolling Stones\1969-07-05 Hyde Park London

Extra:
For each show I do a Google AI search for: “Date, Band, Highlights and Setlist”
I add the results to the description of the show.
For example:
1976-08-04 Grateful Dead Highlights and Setlist

I also try to find a show poster or announcement to add to the Poster image.

It may not be the best way but it works for me. I hope that helps.

(edited to at the proper directories for Music and Concert Video)

Since concerts are generally considered single-event programs they appear as Movies in metadata providers quite often. As long as you have them all in a directory outside your normal movies you can just make a new Library of type Movies and name it “Concerts and Music” or similar.

Personally I still keep them in the same directory as my movies and just have them all in a collection (with only the collection visible in the library, not the individual titles), but if you want this to be a permanent fixture on the home page a separate library would be better.

I’m using a “Movies” library for this kind of content. Because it allows you to add local extras. Concerts often come with bonus content, which l usually like to have.

If there is an item for which there is no metadata on TheMovieDB, don’t forget to explicitly Unmatch it before adding your own metadata manually.

Maybe you could use the new .nfo support as well.
