So, is there no way to create a subfolder in the TV section? Right now, they are all in one folder but I would like to divide out dramas from sitcoms from specials and kids shows instead of all in one giant Tv section?

(in movies, of course, I have them subdivided by genrre and it works fine),

You can do that… however for it to work you’ll need to point Plex to the respective genre folders instead of the top-level folder.

Example

This should work

TV Shows  <- do not point your Plex tv-show library here
  Drama   <- folder linked from your tv-show library
    Show 1
    Show 2
    Show 3
    ...
  Comedy   <- folder linked from your tv-show library
    Show X
    Show Y
    Show Z

Within Plex you should be able to filter your shows by Genre anyway
