Other Videos Library: Difference between Plex Video Files and Plex Video Files Scanner

I’m wondering what the difference between the “Plex Video Files” and “Plex Video Files Scanner” scanners are. There doesn’t appear to be anything in the scanner documentation page that talks about this.

I know that with the Movie and Music scanners, they too have similar “duplicate” scanners as well. In those cases, the scanners without the word “scanner” in the name are the newer versions. I’m not sure if that’s the same case for the video scanner though.

When adding a Movies or Music library, it will select the newer scanner version automatically (the one without the word scanner at the end). When adding a new other videos library, however, it selects “Plex Video Files Scanner” by default. I would think that if the “Plex Video Files” scanner is a new version, it would select it as the default scanner just like Movies and Music do.

Can someone clarify the differences between these two scanners and which one is actually recommended?

Good to know. Thanks for the quick response.

When will it be time to switch to the C++ version? Or at least beta test it (vs. alpha test it)?

How will we know? Thanks!
