Our TV is connecting thourgh WAN to MPS on different SSID

Server Version#:1.16.5.1554
Player Version#: unknown

Hi all,

I have a LG smart TV which is connecting via WiFi to our network through a Tp-Link powerline adapter.
The PMS lives on my desktop PC which is connected via cable to the broadband modem/router.
Usually Plex (direct)stream on the TV decently enough, however whenever the broadband signal is down, Plex won’t stream, which makes it obvious that the TV is tapping my PMS through WAN rather than LAN.

How can I force for the TV to connect through LAN? I doubt it is as easy as switching the SSID names of the two networks (broadband modem/router and powerline adapter) to be the same.

EDIT: I checked my PC IP address and I finally have been able to find the IP address of my TV, they are on the same subnet and have the same DNS server.

Thanks

The client does a dns lookup and authentication check with Plex so to get it to work when their is no internet you would need to set it to use unsecured connections or go to the server and and the local lan for devices allowed to access without authorization.

This is not a correct statement. If your internet is down, you don’t have a WAN connection, but you do have a LAN connection. The behavior of PMS does change though. Refer to the article below for more information.

I read that page and it states

Plex Media Server
The Plex Media Server generally assume you will have an active internet connection when using it. While most things will still work fine if you temporarily don’t have a connection, some things do require an active connection. These include:
Adding new library content (retrieving metadata, art, etc.)
Dynamically Updated Server Components
Mobile Sync (both Mobile Sync and Cloud Sync)
Remote Access and Server Sharing

My TV cannot connect to the PMS when Internet is down, so I assume that, when it was connecting, it was connecting through Remote Access?

Also, I just checked my PC IP address and I finally have been able to find the IP address of my TV, they are on the same subnet and have the same DNS server.

Sorry, this is not correct either. As indicated in the extract you presented, an internet (WAN) connection is required for remote access.
