Parental controls option for future Plex updates/builds/server

Hi everyone,

I thought of a great idea for a future Plex build and I am sure I am not the only one who wants this.

I am coming close to 1,000 films in my ‘Movies’ library. As you can imagine, I have a wide variety of films with all different age ratings. Currently, unless I am missing something, the only way to create any type of parental control is to manage my ‘Movies’ and split it into libraries that I want to share, one library appropriate for children and one that is not. I would then create a new user and only share the library that I consider appropriate for children.
The problem I have with this is that I do not want to split my ‘Movies’ library up and I want them all in the same library. It would surely be much easier, giving us more freedom of use if Plex Pass users were able to simply click ‘Edit It’ and there be an option to password protect certain films in a library? Better still, an option to automatically lock adult rated films. Or say if I do create another user, have their adult rated films password protected, but when I’m logged on, mine wont be.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated

This is very helpful, thank you. I had no idea this was even an option.

There is still a flaw however. I have noticed that whilst creating a Test User and applying what I would like the kids to view, not adding the PG-13 means that they can only watch several of the Harry Potter films and not all. Selecting the PG-13 means they can watch all the Harry Potter films, but also Apollo 18 (Which is scary and not appropriate). I understand it’s not Plex that’s in charge of rating films, but giving an option to unlock certain locked films would be a great add-on.

Only allowing your kids to view 4/8’s of the Harry Potter series and not even in order is neglect
