Partial naming problem Doctor Who (2005)

I am a 3-year user who has experience troubleshooting naming problems and this one has me stumped; this is NOT a 1963/2005 issue (I have those separate) and it’s not a filename formatting issue as it’s consistent with all my other filenames.

For Doctor Who (2005), seasons 2-4 are scraping correct information about the episodes EXCEPT the titles. There are accurate summaries of the episodes, and it appears to pull every piece of information EXCEPT the title, which is the filename instead of the actual episode title.

This is NOT happening with seasons 1 or 5-12.

Seasons 1-9 are all from the same source and the files are named the same way, and since it’s scraping proper summaries I think it’s not an identification problem.

It’s almost like the source it’s scraping from has all information except titles.

Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase

Afterwards, Refresh Metadata of the affected items.

If your library already uses the new “Plex TV Series (Beta)” agent, do this instead:
Edit your library
go to the ‘Advanced’ tab
clear the check mark out of “Prefer local metadata”

Afterwards, Refresh Metadata of the whole show.

That is very interesting; I just saw something similar mentioned in the conversation for Archer (2009) seasons 1-3 that are doing a similar thing. Will try it now.

Worked perfectly, thank you. Doing it to Archer (2009) as well now.

This is caused by embedded metadata in your files. Check the title tag in these files.

looking at embedded metadata is beyond my skillset; as I said, your suggestion worked perfectly and I’ve now fixed both shows that had this problem.
