Incorrect TV Show Titles

I’m running into issues importing TV series and the titles of the TV episodes. They seem to be importing titles that are derived from the original file, but aren’t actually part of the file itself. I’ve searched for this issue in the forums and have found others with the issue, but all of the fixes that have been suggested in other threads haven’t worked for me. Here is an example of what a recent import looks like:

Now those strings of characters for the show titles appear nowhere in the filename nor in the metadata of the files. But even so, I’ve tried to make the “local media assets” agent the lowest priority for importing files. Here is what my Shows agent list looks like:

I should add that this doesn’t happen for every show I import. It seems to only happen for shows that I import full seasons of at a time. Any shows that come in as just a single episode seem to have the correct titles.

Any advice on how to fix this? So far the only way I’ve found is to manually name each episode, but I’ve given up on doing that as it is extremely tedious.

Hi,
It seems your naming is the issue here. To obtain good Metadata Naming is very important for plex to enrich your Libraries.

I don’t think it’s a naming issue, as here are my files:

Like I said, the actual string of characters that are in the titles of the episodes “Your.Honor.S01E01.xxx” does not appear in the file name nor in the metadata - I have no idea where it is coming from.

Ok, I see it must be embedded Metadata in those mp4 files. There are a few ways to fix the issue, I have found using mkv which plex does not read it’s metadata a quick solution.

I use MKVToolNix to quickly remix the containers, takes seconds.

By the way your files details should be .

Your Honor (US) - S01E01 - Part One - [1080P- Bluray] . ext

Again, that information appears nowhere in the metadata. Here’s a dump of it:

Try one of offending files in mkv

Welp it turns out it was in the metadata, the metadata was just missing from the mdls info. I feel dumb, but this is fixed now. Thanks for the help!
